Curtana Install (Xiaomi Redmi Note 9s)
-
I got my hands on a Curtana so UT install here we go. Aaaaaaah Xiaomi, I had to wait a full month to unlock it! So today is the day, unlocked the device, no issues. Then check the Android version - OH DEAR we are on Android 11. So a bit of research read this. Followed this very carefully and yes I could downgrade. So with my current run of luck, I knew I would hard brick the device, but hey-ho, bit of optimism. Lets go.
Downloaded the earliest ROM from here and flashed it using the mi flash tool:YES, USE the MI FLASH tool. You need a windows PC and if you try it in a CLI it won't work!
MAKE SURE YOU FILL THE BOX AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT WITH "CLEAN ONLY". IT DEFAULTS TO CLEAN and LOCK, which means it will lock the bootloader and MAY BRICK THE DEVICE.
You have to unzip the ROM twice and navigate to its folder and the device must be in fastboot mode (Power off the device, wait a bit and then press the Power on and Volume down button till you get the redstar bear?). Flash the ROM and set the phone up again.
Then run the UT installer and follow the instructions.
My luck deserted me by no WiFi or Modem loaded. Moved from Stable to RC and reinstalled with the installer. Same thing - no Modem or WiFi.
So I downloaded the latest Android 10 ROM (yes, read the installer instructions). Flashed it to that, set Android up (again!), then ran the device through the installer. Worked like a charm.
All is good on it...... So I am running on RC, I may change it, but I am happy so far with it. Thank you to nitanmarcel.

You could downgrade even with rollback protection ?!
Or it was not set (and you verified before downgrading) on your device even with android 11 installed ? -
@keneda Yes, if you read the article, there is a method to test to see if you can downgrade. Also highly recommended not to use TWRP to downgrade. but do it through the Mi Flash Tool. I had an Index of 1 and the ROM I used was the same so it could be done.
Well I went from Android 11 down to 10 and it didn't brick the device, after that it was just using the wrong Android 10 ROM that gave me a headache. -
@mrt10001 Actually I'm glad you've read the installer instructions but I'm prety sure I've also added a link to a firmware list (read more or anyway at the end of that specific section). You didn't need mi flash tool nor windows. Just find a fastboot ROM, unpack it (once) and run the flash_all.bat or flash_all.sh on linux when connected with fastboot.
But glad you managed to get to the end of it.
Enjoy Ubuntu Touch
