I have been wondering for a long time:

What does the attachments subdirectory of the history-service directory keep? How does it work ? When I go into detail on my Volla currently (but on all smartphones i used), I feel like it keeps huge number of MMS attachments which have yet been deleted from messaging-app (MMS sent and received).

Yes this is a known bug, when you delete a message, the attachments won't be deleted:
will be fixed by: https://gitlab.com/ubports/development/core/history-service/-/merge_requests/15

Can we install the MR now outside the channels or still wait for modifications ? If yes can you give me the command line please.

Is the merge request suposed to update what has not been deleted from the old MMS?

if you are on devel: sudo ubports-qa install PR_history-service_15

Is the merge request suposed to update what has not been deleted from the old MMS?

unfortunately no, a script would be needed . But you know, time....
This will only allow to delete the attachment when you delete a MMS.
