There is no solution for the absence of the vpn editor application on focal. The deficiency between it and the original vpn integrated with the system is the absence

Which protonvpn will not work without activating it.vpn editor
Or at least where do I find the settings file so I can try to add it manually if possible -

There was work to import a .ovpn file under xenial. It didn't go all the way for x reasons. I don't think it will be in the last xenial OTA-25.
Regarding the import .ovpn files under focal, for me it is the unknown.. Maybe someone will find some links..
Not being able to set up a VPN with focal by any means would be another big miss.

@domubpkm I have old setting for vpn from xeinal and it still works with me on focal now and I change the key files when changing the server as a temporary solution until converting the vpn editor to focal

I've been able to config proton vpn conexion on my Volla X with a fresh 20.04 focal.
I did the same as with 16.04, but without the vpn app and it works.
I can choose sha-512, but it works too choosing "by default"
