I have a problem with high battery drain on UT 15.04 (r172) (it regards also UT devel and stable channels). The battery lasts in up to 12 hrs of mostly idle + just a couple of phone calls and SMSes. WiFi, bluetooth, location switched off. Please see a screenshot of top command output- screenshot. Only terminal opened. On Lineage OS for example the battery lasts in ca. 1 day of even intensive use (many phone calls- web browsing etc). Can I do/try anything to make it better?

Put the terminal-app in landscape mode to see which proc is running on top in top. Wild guess: mediascanner-service.

@guru OK, on the top of the list is htop as a process?! Then I have changing in the second place "terminal" and "unity 8" processes with ca. 10% of CPU use. The rest of processes takes 1-2 % each. So does it mean that it is just like this, UT consuming much more battery even if there is no bugs?

I've read Your post previously already and I checked this option- no change at all.

Has anybody any other idea what may be a reason of UT bigger battery consumption in comparison with other OSes (including Sailfish OS and LineageOS- android)? UT seems to be really nice alternative to mentioned OSes. It still need quite a lot of improvements but my demands are not big. All UT offers almost covers my needs. What a pity it drains battery so quickly.

Please follow my suggestion and post a terminal-app with top in landscape mode and set top with 'i' not showing idle processes.

No, I said top, not htop. πŸ™‚

Please do so and toggle away with i the idle proc.

Do you have an idea about why a proc 'mpdecision' is running in your device?

@guru Absolutely NO :). What process actually it is? I'm not a power user, so I have no idea what is going on...

it's the one with PID 1353; try to kill it (sudo kill -9 1353), does it re-appear?

I killed the proces, then put β€œtop i” and process reappeared.

@guru But what kind of process is it and why should't be present in top?

I do not know and I do not have it. But it consumes a lot of CPU time (1h27min) and if you google for it, it is mentioned together with battery drain.

@guru I have searched the web, have a look at this link text. So it seems that mpdecision process is actually an integral part of qualcomm processors and is in charge of...smaller battery consumption haha. So if permanent killing of this process would be possible it would even decrease the battery life. It is not right diagnose of what makes my battery lasts so quick. Any other idea?

OK, for those who also have a problem with high battery drain in their Nexus 4. I realized a few times that my phone drops a 3G connection for a while and quickly catch it back. Yesterday I switched a connection type completely to 2G. After this the battery went down during the night in percentage from 90 to 70. When it was set to 3G it usually used to lose over 50% during the night. So it seems that this is a point. A 3G connection drains my battery much more than other OSes. In 3G mode this phone battery under Lineage OS used to last within more than 1 day of quite intensive usage. Under UT in 3G mode it lasts within 12 hours of small-average usage. I do not know what is the time of battery life in 2G mode under Lineage OS as I had no reason to test it. So for the moment I'm going to use 2G connection most of the time and switch to 3G in case of need of faster internet connection.

Can you try to make your analysis again, we changed the ping interval for the push service, hoping to take off load from all phones πŸ˜‰

@flohack Yes I can :). I will charge my phone to 100% when I'm back home, switch to 3G and will see.
