Wasn't sure whether to add to existing thread from 2019, and The Forum suggested I start a new one, so here goes.

Having similar struggles as seen in: Can't switch back to Stable from RC on Nexus 5

Wanting to try Nexus 5 as my daily driver (my current UT daily driver is not playing nicely enough) and wanting to switch from 16.04 RC to Stable before putting my primary SIM in. I have not booted/updated since early April.

So, it either makes me think it has switched to Stable and then shows that it really hasn't, or it magically switches itself to Development and refuses to change to RC or Stable until I close the Settings window and reopen it, and then it is back to RC again.

Some updates have installed tonight, but 433MB Update 2496, whatever it is for, keeps refusing to install (blue button 'restart and install' does nothing, manual red Restart from Power menu restarts but does not install). So then it starts downloading itself all over again. Been battling this for hours... Have >70% battery and later put it on the charger so all the network activity didn't kill it, so it's not low battery preventing installation.

I feel I should not NEED to reflash from the installer/USB but suspect I have little other choice...

I guess I could try switching to Edge and see what happens... But scared of what might happen under Edge, and also feel I might be better to hang onto that hope than find out that it won't get me unstuck either!

@prophanetes Do you have data you want to keep on the phone? If not try the installer with the wipe option for a clean start. If you do the installer may still be the best way to go from what you have said, just don't hit that wipe button.

@prophanetes whatever you do, do not try the edge channel. It is by now outdated and is never really the place to go to to try to solve any issue you might be having.

@arubislander Good to know that my fears weren't too foolish...

@Lakotaubp Nothing I needed to keep. I ran the installer with wipe and am back on Stable as expected. (Got a certificate error trying to provide feedback, something about host aliases?) I am curious how repeatable the glitch might be, but would rather stay on Stable for the daily driver and not take the risk of getting stuck on something else.
