No media within mms texts.

Problem:
When receiving a text that contains any sort or media (image, emoji, attachments, etc) the text message only displays a download button to receive that content. Once the button is clicked, it spins until it times out. The media content does not display. At first, I had a hard time determining if this problem was a carrier APN cellular issue (Mint Mobile), or phone model issues (Fairphone 4), or a code issue (ubports/ubuntu touch). As a result, I reviewed many posts in forums, and tried many APN changes attempting to fix this issue. This produced no results. I also saw in the forums, things like enable roaming, turning off wifi, switching to 2G, and 3G, and in conjunction with various APN changes. While reviewing the forums I can see others with the same problems, but through those posts I could not identify a fix.
That said I'm not sure I can even send text with attachments. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear of the problems. I keep rambling my ideas in various posts about MMS, but the thing is I don't actually know anything about how any of it works, I've just struggled a bunch myself.
As a means of easier testing, texting your own phone number is useful. I'll see the photo sent successfully on the right of the messaging window, then arrived on the left side. Or if not working, I'll see the infinite scroll wheel.
Sounds like you've already read what you can on this. Having a separate APN for Internet and MMS is definitely important on most phones, and trying to shut off cellular internet, just using MMS for the time being might be worth trying. But you've probably read that stuff already, and it's all I know to try. My success wa just after a lot of trial and error with any and all APN settings that I could find for my provider (including from strange and not very official seeming websites).
Good luck!

One thing for sure is that you can download MMS only when cellular data is On and Wifi is Off.
Does Cellular data works for you ? , e.g surfing the internet ?
If it is still an issue, then look at the APN settings. You can share here what is your provider and current settings. MMS settings might differs. E.g, for me i have to combined MMS+Internet to make it works whereas provider website state that we need one for Internet and one for MMS. -

Hi lduboeuf
I can only receive pure text. If even an emoji is added it displays nothing. Not even the text. In short pure text works (only ascii characters). If anything is added, the entire text fails. Yes, I can browse the web on cellular data. I've tried all the APN setting (recent and older posted settings) that i could find per my carrier, and what i saw in the forums. Nothing worked to make the mms test come through. I only have a button (placeholder instead of a text message) that prompts me to download the mms message and it just spins and times out. All the while i can surf the web with 1. cellular data and 2. with wifi. My provider auto populates my APN setting as MMS+Internet. I tried changing APN settings manually. with proxy and without, as i've seen both ways. Still nothing. Per Min't Mobiles recommendations as well as other settings i see in the forums, I've tried every variation i saw and that I could think of. As I said I can browse the web without wifi. But a text with something more than just text, fails to deliver and notifies me i have a message and prompts me to download it. which never completes. it times out and i get nothing.

Update. All this was tested as of yesterday. And no changes. Additionally my software was up to date. Good news. about an hour ago I notice a new software update. I applied the update, it installed, and rebooted. I have not tested turning off the wifi and retest, sense the update. I tried just now and the text cam through. At least I have a work around now. That's convenient an update was available today. where a few days ago I tried an update and it returned with, there are no updates available. Thank you for the reviews and feedback.
