        Hi. I read in this article that installing Ubuntu on most android phones will not replace the android os, but simply build on top of it.

        Is that accurate? I got a google pixel 3a with the plan to put ubuntu on it, but I only want to do this if it will actually totally remove the android os

          @coffeecatharine That article is talking about installing regular Ubuntu on Android, and has nothing to do with installing Ubuntu Touch on the select devices that the OS supports.

          UT does replace the Android OS, however the same vendor blobs containing the hardware drivers are retained in a container in order be able to communicate with the device hardware.

            @arubislander thank you!!
            I'm new to all this. Does the container prevent the vendor blobs from doing anything beyond their container?

              @coffeecatharine it does, but your data does pass through them (the wifi driver, the bluetooth driver, the device modem), so if you feel you have reason not to trust them, then well, you probably should be using something like the PinePhone.
