      Hello,

I am a developer and recently decided to experience an alternative approach to cell phoning. Research led me to UT, and thus far, I am grateful it did.

I bought a OnePlus 6T and installed the UT OS yesterday.

I am curious how other users use their UT devices. So please, if you have the time, explain to me how you use your device. I am hoping your knowledge will accelerate my UT journey. 🙂

      Thank you,

@Nymexx For calls, photographs, messaging (Telegram / Signal / SMS), navigation, simple games, as a calculator and for light browsing.

        Is currently using an Op5t
Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.

Hej great question, well i use UT on a fairphone 4 as my daily driver to browse, research download music an videos, as media device for music and video playback on my tv, as my organizer for work and my gardening hobby plant diaries and so.

So ye I'm quite happy with UT, even if the getting used to period was a bit challenging but my conversion from android and the feeling of independence are priceless. 😄

          Running UT on FairPhone4
          And loving it

@Nymexx a game changer is an app called webber! Which allows you to create webapps (shortcuts) to webpages. Those webapps will appear together with all the other apps in the menu. They are really great to fill the gap for apps that I'm missing from android. Well as long as there is a web page available.
            Example:
            Bandcamp
            My banking service
            We transfer
            A web forum
            Bitchute
            ...
            ...
            And many more
There is also an app called "home"
which allows you to kinda create a home screen
With a clock, calender, search bar and other little widgets. Just available on the open store accessed by browser. Because its a version for the previos UT Xenial but it works perfect.
Make sure to also install the "home weather widget“ for a weather indicator on the "home-screen"
I'd love to upload a picture to show you a possible layout...but i just dont know how 🙂

@Nymexx Hi, I use my Volla 22 with UBPorts as daily driver. I have no other phone or tablet.

              • This means, I use it for communication: Axolotl (Signal), TELEports (Telegram), Cinny (Matrix), SMS and Phone calls (typically with 2 SIM cards).
              • I use it for navigation (uNav and Pure Maps) and for bus/train routing (Fahrplan).
              • I use it for web browsing (Morph and Sapot browser) and authentication (Authenticator NG).
              • I use it for photo and video taking (default apps), and listening to music.
              • I use it for note-taking and to do lists (Notes, Talaan, Seabass2)
              • Furthermore, some tools such as Tagger, Terminal, unitConverter, Calculator, ...

I use the volla X23 with focal ota-4.1 as my only phone and for the following activities:

                • SMS - ok
                • uNav - not optimal but usable
                • Morph Browser - ok
                • Dekko2 - catastrophic
                • Photo - unfortunately wrong GPS metadata
                • Talaan - ok - for ToDo lists
                • uRsses - ok
                • DeepL
                • Ubports forum -ok
                • Notes - ok
                • Calendar - unfortunately quite buggy
and hard to read with small white font on a gray background.
                • Music player - ok
                • OSN Scout Server (unfortunately the option of setting the path for the map files
                  don't work correctly)

                Problems:

                • Volla X23 ghost activities
(programs are started by themselves in quick succession)
                • After booting, LTE/4G does not work on its own. You first have to go into flight mode.
                • The calendar has many errors, e.g. after changing the time zone all appointments are moved. I now have many double and triple birthday appointments that I can no longer remove from the calendar, unfortunately you can't search for appointments in the calendar, etc..
                • Bluetooth has improved but is still not good. If you switch while calling to a Bluetooth headset you can't hear anything and can't do anything and have to hang up.

That should suffice as an overview
                Best regards Charly

                Greetings
                Charly

@Charly said in How do you use UT?:

Better not use that Thread as a bug reporting i would say :).
For the calendar "and hard to read with small white font on a gray background", you know that you can change the color of the calendar ?

For the "after changing the time zone all appointments are moved" , a fix is in progress: https://gitlab.com/ubports/development/core/qtorganizer5-eds/-/merge_requests/18

For the "now have many double and triple birthday appointments that I can no longer remove from the calendar", also a pending fix: https://gitlab.com/ubports/development/core/address-book-app/-/merge_requests/245

For the "unfortunately you can't search for appointments in the calendar, ", please file a ticket:

                  Dekko2 - catastrophic

                  Works perfectly for me ^^

                    @lduboeuf, @Moem, @GT, and @Vulpex

Thank you all very much for your responses. I have started to try some of these out. Webber is the first one I downloaded after reading these. It makes a lot of sense for this echo system.

I have my old phone for a bit longer and hope to make the UT phone my only phone moving forward. I am thinking of trying the dual sim out so I can receive messages from the old number for a bit. I want a new phone number from the area code I live in instead of the area code I grew up in.

Thank you all for your help with my transition to UT.
