RE: Language recommendation
@unrealb2 I would recommend python (if you don't know c++). For a long time I didn't try out any app development because I am not good with c++, but then I found an app I wanted to contribute to. It was written in python and I was able to pick it up pretty quickly, I even started developing my own app with python. QML is fairly easy to get going with too.

RE: Building images for the Pinephone
@doniks I think that was the missing link for me, thanks! I didn't consider that I could just build new debs for those projects and install them to test. Much appreciated! And as for the kernel stuff, thank you for that too! I will play around with installing a new kernel.

ubports.chat ssl certificate expired
I have been having trouble with Riot not connecting to the ubports.chat matrix server on my laptop (fluffychat is not having any issues). While trying to figure out what was wrong I noticed that the ssl certificate for ubports.chat expired on August 21st. I don't know who manages that, but since ubports is in the domain, I figured this was a good place.
I was able to encounter this error here: https://ubports.chat:8448
Here is what I see in firefox:EDIT: Accepting the expired cert did fix Riot (Riot.im in firefox) for me. Though it isn't a good solution.

RE: Building images for the Pinephone
@C0n57an71n Thanks for the reply! I did find that before and ran the build.sh, but I ended up with a tarball that had partitions and system files, but it doesn't look like a rootfs (just some firmware files and modem scripts).

Building images for the Pinephone
Hello all! I want to start pitching in on development for the Pinephone, but I am a bit confused as to how I should get started. Does anyone have a script or maybe build instructions to create an image that I can flash to my sd card that will allow me to use different kernels and modified versions of system components (e.g. power-indicator)?
I have tried the instructions here but It doesn't seem to create an image that I can write to an SD card. It also doesn't tell me how I can make changes to the rootfs.
If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be super helpful! I've not done OS development before, but I call myself a software developer so I am hoping that I can get some low hanging fruit issues to contribute. Thanks!

RE: Differences between Nexus 4 models?
I have to disagree, I have been using a Nexus 4 on UT for about a year now, and I love it! It certainly isn't the fastest phone in the world, but I don't notice any extra slowdown on UT vs Android. I have also never had an issue with overheating.
And mine also says LG E960. -
RE: Newsie, a Nextcloud News client
That is awesome! I look forward to using it and seeing how it develops!

RE: After update to OTA-7 a scheduled alarm arrived one hour to late
I have had similar issues with alarms not working after an update. The solution that has worked for me is deleting all my alarms after an upgrade and creating new ones. Not ideal, but it works for me.
