RE: Problems with gps on google pixel 3a xl
@jite I have now rebooted android on the device and I can confirm that gps works flawlessly so it is not a problem with the device hardware. This is really disappointing as it shows that really gps is only ‘partially working’ for UT for the pixel 3a xl. I really did try to use the gps and give it every chance to pick up a satellite (I would consider beyond what most people would be willing to do).
I think I will wait until focal fossa is developed a little bit more before retrying UT in the future. I use a linux desktop and enjoy the freedom it gives me. I know that droidian is a possibility but my ideal would be to use sxmo on the device and currently the pmos port is not advanced enough for it to be a daily driver. For my taste (and yes this is an opinion) UT is a bit too locked down and the best bit of linux for me is the ability to do whatever you want with the phone so the script writing nature of sxmo really does appeal to me. Different tricks for different folks I suppose.
One of the things I look forward to with fossa is the use of libertine as with 20.04 some of the desktop apps will be more up to date and useful, which is the sort of thing that will take me back to using UT as running it in desktop mode would potentially be more useful. Still love the fact that UT still exists and it is still a great distro!

RE: Rebooting android from ubuntu touch
In case anyone else has this problem, I think I got around the problem by manually getting into fastboot mode by holding the power and down volume button key. In the terminal on the computer rather than put in 'adb devices' I put in 'adb fastboot' and this recognised the device. I was then able to run the flash-all.sh script as the device was then recognised.
Just allowing it to boot up as we speak so hopefully no further issues!
This all may sound straightforward to those who know how to do this, however the documentation I could find online did not state type in adb fastboot, so hopefully this can be helpful to others who run into this issue.

RE: Problems with gps on google pixel 3a xl
@mdl Hi, I was just having a go at reinstalling android tonight and seeing if it was a hardware issue or software issues. Am having a few issues with adb so I will try to do it on mac and not linux tomorrow and get back to you...

Rebooting android from ubuntu touch
Anyone had any problems rebooting android after using UT? I am able to have the device recognised by adb, however on rebooting the bootloader it switches the device off only (pixel 3a xl) so I am unable to get into bootloader mode in order to run the flash.sh script. When I manually go into bootloader mode using the buttons on the phone, the device is not recognised (I do have to press a prompt on UT when the device is in the os).
This is on a Linux device running ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Any advice gratefully received as I plan on going back to UT but need to investigate if I have bought a dud device or if it is just on UT that the gps is not working.

@applee hmmm, good thought. I hadn't quite considered that. I had not tried it on android as they first thing I did was to downgrade to android 9 and then install UT.

RE: Problems with gps on google pixel 3a xl
@applee Hi thanks for the tips. I have just left the phone on a window ledge (clear view of the sky) for a total over over 2 hours (the battery was down to 15% when I stopped the test). For the first hour, I tried the sensor status app with no success. For the second hour I tried unav with no success.
Not certain if I have just installed UT incorrectly and if it will mend itself if I reinstall the os...
I think it was doing something though as it drains the battery... -
RE: Problems with gps on google pixel 3a xl
@lakotaubp yes I have tried the sensor status app and it seems to think the system is ok but it cannot find a satellite with the gps. To be fair when I tried it for over an hour outside I was in the center of london so lots of high rise buildings. Today I will try to leave it outside in a field or something and see what happens (it is cold though).
Overall, I am pleased with UT although I need to learn how to unlock the linuxy side of things a bit more like on my linux desktop. Droidian is looking tempting but UT is more polished and with the 20.04 around the corner, this may make libertine more interesting.

RE: Pixel 3a "GPS interface not found"
@damiam
Hello,I am having problems locating the gps on the pixel 3a. It seems to have ‘found supported backend’ and is ‘active’ but none of the apps that use gps can find my location. I have left it on for over an hour with no success...
