    • RE: Fairphone 3+ (FP3+) and UBPorts 24.04 Questions

      Hello,

I found out why it was not displaying the version to be installed.
You have to click on "install" in order to see the version getting installed, then you select that and click "OK" to start the installation.
But as a cautious person, not willing to de facto factory reset the device, I hesitated. Nowhere was it mentioned that there would be another page, where further settings could be made.
I feel kind of silly for this, but at the same time it seems like an oversight in the Installer, that you cannot see how many option pages there will be before you actually commit on installing anything.

    • RE: Fairphone 3+ (FP3+) and UBPorts 24.04 Questions

Hello and thank you for your answers.

My main objective is to get rid of Android (except the obvious parts for the Halium container) on my device. Also I really would like to run close to mainline, but this is more a dream than reality.
With the addition of snap and easy integration of waydroid, I can seamlessly migrate over and use most of the snap programs I already use.
I know that I cannot do an "apt install whatever", this is a little sad but I know where it comes from.
I did not find some of my preferred programs in the Open Store or they where severely outdated (Element).
I am aware that the Open Store uses click (I think was the name) packages, and is therefore another format other than deb or snap.

      Regarding the installation.
The installer does not state which version will get installed. This is what stopped my attempt, as is would like to know which version gets installed if I where to click on install 😊
The installer mentions a specific stock Android version (for Halium) to be installed, which implies that 20.04 would get installed.
Then again, my target version is 24.04 and I am not sure if my device could be upgraded to reach this version.

I got the impression, that this is not quite sure, which I hoped to get confirmation here for.
I have no problem first installing the older version and then upgrading to the recent version, but would only do that if it is certain that it is possible.

    • Fairphone 3+ (FP3+) and UBPorts 24.04 Questions

      Hello,

      first time posting here.
Firstly thank you very much for providing an alternative to the two major mobile platforms, which are increasingly getting more restricted or werte already very restrictive from the very start.

I have several questions regarding UBPorts on the Fairphone 3+.

Currently I am running LineageOS 22.2 with unlocked bootloader.
I am using Ubuntu Linux (24.04.3 LTS) on my PCs.
I would like it very much to get a quite similar OS experience on my mobile device.
I have installed the UBPorts installer and would surely be able to flash UBPorts to my device (if i were to downgrade the android version to a stock Android 10 based image), but in the confirmation dialogue, I can not identify, which version of UBPorts will be installed.
As the latest version has several "must haves" (encryption, snap support) in it, I would really like to install this version, as the older version would not provide these features.
I did not proceed with further steps, as it was not clear which version would get installed.
I am assuming that 20.04 (focal) will be installed, as this is the release mentioned here: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/fp3/
At the same time, the announcement post for 24.04 (noble) states, that FP3+ is supported.

Which version will be installed, if I would have proceeded with the installation?
Would it be possible to upgrade this initial installation to the latest 24.04 release?
Is it currently possible to install 24.04 on the FP3+ at all?

Thank you in advance for your answers and every attempt to clarify this.
