Those would be the main reason to branch away from the current wave of Google Pixel phones, at least from an end users perspective.

If I were in your position I'd consider commissioning some kind of Single Board Computer, to satisfy customers who want a tailored device.
(Raspberry Pi et. al. seem to treat DIY pocket computers as an afterthought)
