In case it helps anyone else, the intermittent 'no sim' on a new Nexus 5 was in my case not due to software or firmware, but lateral movment of the sim card in the tray. I noticed many people who had this problem mentioned they used an adaptor (nano micro). I also do. A piece of sellotape across the back and folded over the shortest long edge (i.e. adjacent to the 45 deg notch) solved the problem perfectly.

Is there a way to remove scopes/dash?
Hi all,
I am a new user (but long time Ubuntu user) determined to escape Android/iOS. I'm liking a lot of UBports on my Nexus 5. Few teething probs, but the sort of things I expected I would have.
One silly thing that is bugging me - is it poss to turn off the Scopes/dash on rc/stable and have the app drawer as it appears on the devel ch? I am constantly swiping at it to try to get rid if it. I have been through the menu several times and searched. Am I being really unlucky & missing it or is it only like that on the devel ch atm? Looks beautiful on there as untouched xenial snow & as smooth as butter. On rc atm, as I mean to use this as my daily phone - sounded like a happy balance, but would be great if poss to switch to that clean no app appearance. Cheers -
RE: No SIM/GPS detected on Nexus5
@rf PS I should prob add that the phone was new (well, freshly unwrapped), so I would be unlucky if it is hardware. Uninstalled Skype (no help) reflashed from stable to devel (no help). Cheers

RE: No SIM/GPS detected on Nexus5
@jolek78 Sorry to reply to a post that is a few months old but mine has also started saying no sim. Seemed to follow install and use of of Skype webapp (but poss. coincidence) A restart cures it - for a while. In my case, the first thing I did upon receiving the phone was to flash UBPorts. I wonder what stock image you flashed - the latest here: https://developers.google.com/android/images perhaps? If so I will do the same. Cheers
