@iamnotarobot porting UT to other devices is WIP, and HTC10 and OnePlus 5T are pretty close to be the next big thing.

BUT N5 is more than good enough to be a reference device, specially for things like this πŸ˜‰

        Yes, that's a N5 in convergence mode πŸ™‚

@elastic yes, N5 is sadly famous for its battery but what I mean is that, since running xenial, I really can use this phone as a daily driver πŸ™‚

Same for me. With OTA-4 (new kernel fixes?), I can say that battery is much more acceptable than before, which was almost unusable. Deep sleep has be improved. However, while using the device I can still see the battery count down almost in real time... :S

Another hack that I saw somewhere was to kill a service that prevents deeper sleep:

          sudo pkill -9 hciattach

Not sure if it actually does anything. Seems harmless though?

Side note: Best battery life device I have used is the OPO. Sadly the sim tray is broken on the one that I have 😞

@iamnotarobot: No, I agree with you that it would be very desirable to have a more up to date phone to showcase UT on, but at the moment the N5 is one of the few devices on which one is able to showcase all the things that make UT stand out.
But I have this feeling that things could be way different by the end of the year.

Full disclosure: I don't and never have owned a N5 device.

Battery life of my mx4 was ok with 15.04. I have 16.04 since yesterday on this device and my first impression is that the battery life is also better on this device with 16.04.

Yep. I had Nexus 5 completely drain while I was napping. A few calls came in, and then it was completel off when I got up.

I bought a used n5 to try UT (I am not a heavy user nor do I use it as a daily driver) and I was always wondering whether I should maybe change the battery. Now that you give me some reference on that topic I understand that my battery must be in rather good condition. Good to know.

That aside the battery performance is much improved with the deep sleep feature included in OTA-5. Fully discharge the battery and charge until the indicator goes white.

I bought a N5, because other used phones are very hard to find in my country. Mine is 4 years old, and the battery works ~ one and half a day. Its pretty hard to find a well used N5, so it would be nice, if UT would be ported to a newer phone. There are quite a few Chinese 4GB/64GB phones and they are quite cheap too.

I have a LG Leon, just 2 years old. Don't know whether UT can be installed in it.

@chdslv This is the list of current devices https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ I say current as porting to other devices is taking places and will be announced when they are ready. As each device has to be individually ported and this takes time and a lot of work.
If you have the skills you can try your own port or if like me that is way above what you can do patience is they say a virtue. I am not trying to be rude or disrespectful to you or anyone else, but it can get rather annoying to the developers to keep getting can you port to this or that device requests.
So hold tight new devices are on the way as UBports moves ever forward.

@lakotaubp I tried to buy either One plus One, or a Fairphone 2, but none can be found. Only the newer ones are available in 2nd hand internet shops here. Very few N5s too. Old phones, more than 4 years old are pretty hard to find. I was lucky to get a decent N5. Even though the N5 works quite all right, some apps don't work well, such as Unav, Maps, OpenStreetMap. For example, OpenStreetMap found me few 100 meters away from, where I was, but today it placed me across the Baltic sea in Sweden. This could be something wrong with the app, or something wrong with device -- checking the gps -- problem of used old phones. That's why to thoughts about at least 2 year phone.

I have an Android phone too, bought new 2 years ago. I'd have to use it, if I am travelling, that is, take the sim out and put in that device. That defeats the idea of using UT.

@chdslv Yes the nexus is showing its age now. The new ports are not to far off I don't think. Maybe early next year if I have read things correctly. There has been talk of other One Plus devices and Htc. Others will know more than me but are probably waiting till everything is ok before announcing things.
I have both nexus and OPO which I got from eb--. The nexus is now really for emergency and playing about with. Give e-*y a try. https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-blog-1/post/ubuntu-touch-q-a-38-177 might explain why the other app can be a bit off.

@lakotaubp I only need the navigation app, if I am driving to an unknown area. So, I shall be using UT on N5 for normal phone stuff for next few weeks. I'm hoping it'd work well, so I can continue using it.

Btw, found a used OPO, but its price is bit more than an iphone 6 plus.

Sorry to come back to this thread, but I've noticed over the last couple of weeks, that the battery-life on my N5 seems to be significantly improved. I don't know if anything's been changed in the code, but thanks, all. πŸ™‚

                                          Hello all Nexus 5 owners.
I'm starting to think about changing my BQ and buying a Nexus 5, but I see a some different models like 5, 5X
Does Nexus5X work with ubports or just Nexus 5?

                                          Thanks.
