Devel channel is coming along well with the new Unity 8 and Mir. Congrats!
These were part of Canonical's previous unfinished work from years ago.
There were also some work already done for the multi-display support which I'm very excited for! πŸ˜„

Aside from these, are there any other Canonical unfinished works that will be worked on in the future to be integrated in UT? And if there's nothing more, what's the plan for the future developments in terms of design and big features?
We will be somewhat like "we're on our own now" πŸ˜›

So far, not much "big" changes or new features so I'm curious about this.

This is not to discredit UBports and our work. I'm just curious who will now decide for big changes in UT πŸ˜„

I'll defer to the devs, but here are a few things that come to my mind:

          1. Completing the transition to the Wayland protocal;
          2. Rebasing from Xenial (16.04) to Focal (20.04); and
          3. Polishing aspects of Unity8 needed for desktop mode.

I'm not at all clear what Canonical is planning for their "Anbox Cloud" project. But if the project aims to offer a way to run some Android apps in the cloud (rather than directly on a Linux device), the project seems like a good thing for Ubuntu Touch.

Your initial thoughts on "Anbox Cloud" project?

Would the installer allow the installation of other OSes than UT at a later date? Because the question 'which OS do you want to install?' is asked at the beginning of an installation procedure. If so, which OS(s)?

A few questions for an amazing UBPORTS Q&A Team (I hope you have some time to spare):

                1. Are you familiar with the statement of Pine64:

                  https://www.pine64.org/2019/08/19/its-time-to-start-giving-back/

                where they declare:

"To this end, we have now made the decision to relay all revenue from PinePhone sales to the development community and third-party Linux-on-phone projects. In doing so we hope that, on the one hand, this will help Linux-on-phone projects grow and prosper, and on the other, entice developers to commit their time to PinePhone development."

And that the production (for example) of a batch of 1000 (ubports branded)PinePhones delivers 10000 dollar to the development team (ubports)?

                1. Please comment on the (competition with) other pinephone projects/distros shown in the video:

                  https://youtu.be/11eObhH8MKA

What makes ubuntu touch better then .......?

As this project is not in any competition with any other project, I doubt there will be any comments in that vein.

Rather than competition the aim is to cooperate wherever possible with other projects. This helps cut down on duplicated effort, carrying all the projects forward, in accordance with the spirit of Open Source.

What are the technical obstacles to providing in app voice and video calling in Ubuntu Touch?

                      You are right!

                      I'm not Mr. Perfect.

                      What I hope for:

I'm in favour for Ubuntu Touch to be the default OS on the PinePhone.

This could have some advantage for UBPORTS?

Therefor I think UBPORTS could try to put the spotlights a little more on Ubuntu Touch for the PinePhone.

Be more proud on what allready has been reached regarding Ubuntu Touch for the PinePhone.

This could be done by making a video to show off Ubuntu Touch on the PinePhone as it actualy is right now?

Share that with the community/pine64 and update that info on a regular base.

UBPORTS could take the lead in advertising Ubuntu Touch for the PinePhone.

Again: I'm in favour for Ubuntu Touch to be the default OS on the PinePhone.

I think it is sometimes okay to highlight the good things that have been reached and leave the things that still have to be done in the background. Maybe now is a good time for that for a while?

                      What is wrong with that?

Again: I'm in favour for Ubuntu Touch to be the default OS on the PinePhone.

                      What is wrong with that?

                      UBPORTS can be proud!

I completely agree with what you wrote. That is, it is not correct to say that the projects are in an engaged in unqualified "competition" to dominate market share.

Even so, I think it's fair to say that the various groups, although dedicated to cooperation wherever possible, are in engaged in a "friendly competition" to put the shared efforts to best use.

And in such a "friendly competition" to extend the capabilities of Linux phones, I'm cheering for UBports and hope that UBports will lead. πŸ™‚
