@Marathon2422 I'll try to get another HDMI adapter.

I suggest you get a Blackberry Playbook HDMI cable. Available on ebay at modest cost. Has a micro HDMI connector which plugs into the M10 and a standard HDMI connector which plugs into the TV. I'm wary of the type that have several conectors hanging off one end.

Probably the best move ( it would be a pain to damage something there)

@dtarrant The cable finally arrived and I just tried... but nothing happened. I've connected it to the TV HDMI input (it works with other devices, so the issue is not here) and I properly selected the input with the remote, but nothing. Is there anything I have to do in my device, other than enabling the external display?

@Angela_92 Sorry to hear it's still not working. I don't remember needing to change any setting on the M10. Just a thought though, maybe you need to switch to desktop mode using the system indicator at top right hand side of your screen. If you pull down and click the system indicator icon, you should see a drop down menu which includes the desktop mode switch.

@Angela_92 Warning. I've just tried desktop mode on my M10 and it doesn't work like it used to.You used to be able to open apps in windows and drag them about, but now it seems broken. It's may be associated with UBports dropping support for scopes and convergence.
(This test was without HDMI connected.)

@Angela_92 OK, so I fetched my HDMI cable and plugged into my TV and switched on my tablet. The tablet screen goes blank and lets you use your finger as a mouse to move the cursor on the TV. Without desktop mode selected, the TV mirrors what would have been on the tablet screen. With desktop mode selected, if you select an app, it is displayed in a window. However, this mode seems to be broken in the sense that it's not possible to re-size or move the window. With desktop mode turned off, things are as you would expect to see on your tablet screen. One thing I noticed was that connecting the HDMI cable appeared to have automatically switched on desktop mode. I was able to use the TV cursor to switch off desktop mode.

For this experiment, I did not use a bluetooth mouse or keyboard.

@Angela_92 Did you ever get it to work, or did you cut your losses and move on?

Hi, i want to try to explain what is happening here. This is my case:
after canonical dropped the project, no more bq phones were going to be sold, so i bought two M10 HD tablets with android oreo 8 preinstalled (this is not the ubuntu version).
Going through the installation process, probably MTKtool or my fault must have corrupted my NVRAM partition and this could be the cause of many problems i don't see reported from other M10's users.

1- WIFI's MAC gone: you must re-enter the wifi password every time you turn it on. ( made a workaround, but still can't write back my original mac)

2- HDMI cable connection not working. (i don't know how to debug this)

3- When i power on my tablet it always boot twice

4- When i connect some headphones the screen stays frozen for about 3 min. Only things i can do is volume and screen on/off.

So i think for people having this kind of problems could be better to try to find a way to recreate the original NVRAM. So far i would like to help. We need to know how many we are.

@simox I purchased my M10 from BQ with the Ubuntu version pre-installed and it works fine with UBports UT.

I'm sure I've read that if you want to install UBports on an M10 Android version, you must first install the original BQ Ubuntu version which still lurks somewhere on the internet.

Maybe @Flohack could point us to the right link?

@dtarrant I bought an M10 Android and have run UBports for a considerable time now, but it was a real pain to install. You have to follow the instructions extremely carefully. I found bits of the install would only work on Win10 (Probably from memory - installing Ubuntu) and bits on Linux, but I got there eventually. It is a very nice tablet, if a bit limited.
(not used with an external display though, as yet)

I tried my m10fhd on Android
                                    "dioxidOS v2.1 ".
In settings i get the option to switch HDMI on ,then the auto or about 10 manual settings for resolution and hz options , all I got was a grey screen, I did try all the screen sizes and settings in the tv ,no luck!
I try it with a laptop next

                                    No ,no difference there either
