The Fairphone 3
-
FYI the kernel source code of the FP3 just has been released, see https://code.fairphone.com/projects/fairphone-3-gpl.html
It has also been added to a git repo to be easily browsable: https://github.com/FairphoneMirrors/android_kernel_fairphone_sdm632
-
Thanks for that @Fla.No doubt they're working on getting Fairphone Open to work on it, and would like to see UT customers too...
-
We are happy to announce that we have publicly released complete and updated GPL sources for the Fairphone 3.

-
thanks for this, @Fla.
What does this news mean for UBPorts? Does it make the Hallium route possibe/likely, or might it turn the FairPhone into a Linux phone like the PinePhone?? (Or neither) -
@3arn0wl It is just GPL compliance release of kernel and modifications I think. AFAIK, it does not include open source drivers, so would of course still need Android binary drivers and Halium.
-
Thanks for that, @dobey - So... one step closer to ubports on FP3..? -
@3arn0wl Someone needs to finish Halium 9 (or was it 10 what FP3 has now)... Its in progress but will take for sure still some months...
-
@Flohack
That's useful. Thank you for that, Florian. -
The Fairphone 3 runs with Android 9. An upgrade to 10 is planned but without ETA.

Re: The Fairphone 3
Fairphone has announced the FP3+ / Kamera+ Update with an 48 and 16 MP camera modules.
At least one company gets it.
-
@makeixo + audio circuit update as i understood and androΓ―d 10 from box.
-
Maybe Fairphone, or somebody else, will make a replacement motherboard for it, so that it can run Linux UT like the pinephone dies. That would make it the ideal device.
-
@Keneda Yes but, you dont have to buy a new phone to get a better camera. thats acutally quite cool. You just buy the modules and change it.
-
@makeixo
I know that, they did the same for fairfone 2.
I'm just saying ^^ -
Hi people !
Is there already something going on for the FP3 to get Ubuntu?
Just my question, cause i buyed one 3 weeks ago and i love the wonderful idea behind it.
And i love it more, since the Company is huilding up new camera modules, man, what a great time to be alive ! :dove:Thanks and stay healthy !

That question came up in the FP2 UBports Telegram group the other day. Someone is working on it and will post here in the forum at some point.
I did try myself some time ago but couldn't manage. There still might be useful information at https://forum.fairphone.com/t/ubuntu-touch-gsi-for-the-fairphone-3/61569?u=ingo
