Does UBports support WiFi Calling?
-
@glyndwr I did ask the same question about 3 months ago, but unfortunately this feature is still missing currently:
https://forums.ubports.com/topic/3894/wifi-calling
Btw no WiFi printing is neither implemented for the moment.
Hope to hear some good news about those in the future

I can print fine from my UTouch devices, but I do need some packages installed in Libertine to do this. Take a look at the instructions and see if they work for you too.

Really need wifi calling/texting in a lot of areas. The area I am in has poor signal, but I have great fiber internet.
Wifi calling is a must have.
-
@Irenicus Well its totally undocumented. If anyone can give us a hint what providers are doing there, we can pick it up. Fact is it snot a published internet standard, a lot of proprietary stuff inside, and so there is no implementation plan possible for it right now.

@Flohack Indeed, this service is mostly used in Switzerland, especially to avoid roaming fees when traveling to abroad (phone calls are automatically routed via wifi and not on the mobile carrier). It's indeed hard to find a detailed technical documentation. Here's the wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_Access_Network
Maybe carriers could send a more efficient documentation? (f.e. A1 Telekom Austria that provides Vowifi ). -

Here's the wiki official webpage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_Access_Network
I might be misunderstanding something, but how is a Wikipedia article official in any way?
-
@arubislander Correct. "official" has been removed.
-
@stanwood Why a carrier would do this? They might be afraid to leak details that would make it attackable, or such thoughts. If I am a carrier I would not even reply to such a request, sounds too shady - but nobody stops you in trying that.
-
@Flohack Thank you. Indeed, not sure to get a lot of help from carriers...
So I just contacted by email a South African IT engineer who published works in 2015 on wifi calling.
I asked him how to obtain technical documentation on this technology.
I'll let you know if I get an answer from him... -
@stanwood Thanks, though I dont expect much here...
Providers are not implementing stuff in software. They are just buying equipment, and configure it. Most of the magic happens in the vendor parts of the base station and the mobile device. So probably you would have to talk to Qualcomm
