Transfert SMS
-
Hi,
I would like to transfer my SMS from my old mobile (Android OS). I recover the XML file that contains all my messages, the question is where to save it in my nexus5 ?
Thank you in advance for helping me

The fact is that there is no standard way to backup sms on Android, so no standard way to import sms on UT.
There is attempt here to bring an import script here but not merged yet: https://github.com/ubports/history-service/pull/8 , it seems it uses
slightbackup
for sms export and a custom script to import datas in history db. -
The SMS and call history are stored in a sqlite database. The layout and more details are here described in my samll booklet: https://guru-1.gitbook.io/bq-aquaris-e-4-5-ubuntu-phone/en/chapter13
It should be relatively easy to INSERT data rows there from some XML file with the data of the SMS. -
Can't you just save (some) on the SIM and get them this way into UT? That's what we used to do back in the day before Smartphones
Would be cool though if the SMS backup feature for Nextcloud would be supported by UT.

SIM contact storage is very limited. Nowadays smartphones allow for thousands of contacts (virtually unlimited). It can be very tedious to back them up by couple of hundreds IIRC and you'll loose additional information like birthday, secondary numbers, address, email address, ...
