[Beta] Pixel 2 XL installer config
-
Good News!
I managed to get an installer config running for the 2XL - find it here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ubports/installer-configs/add-google-pixel-2/v2/devices/taimen.yml
- Download this file
- Download the UBports Installer from here: https://github.com/ubports/ubports-installer/releases/tag/0.8.8-beta (deb preferred, idk if the others accept cmdline arguments)
- Start the installer from cmdline with the parameter -f <path-to-taimen.yml>
So you can install on the 2 XL already now, without having to wait for the release.
IΒ΄d love to receive feedback! Note this time the config works only for 2 XL! Do not try to use the Pixel 2, the installer will not check for sanity.

@flohack i used the snap package for Arch Linux and didn't even have to downgrade from LOS 18.1 andriod 9 it worked first time! brilliant work
-
@adamjonn Yes downgrade is not needed hopefully, as we flash the vendor partition now ourselves
-
@flohack huge amount of progress in a short time, just to ask is it possible to flash the Rom without the preinstalled apps?
-
@adamjonn Some of preinstalled core apps are part of the OS (i.e. messaging, call, settings, morph), some others you can easily uninstall them.
May i ask why you want OS without core apps ?
-
@keneda I see that makes sense, I guess it's minimalist I us lineage os and scripted removing the APKs before it's installed such as calculator, calendar and browser then install just what I need.
-
@adamjonn
Uninstalling apps is easy, just launch openstore app, go to "installed apps", and then go on each app page select trash bin in upright corner and confirm.
They are approx 10 apps you can uninstall after fresh OS install. -
Guys,
I had to update the link to the installer config, it was in the wrong spot, just in case you need to redownload it. The link has been edited in my first post.

@flohack Works perfect with snap from the command line. I like the new recovery menu
-
@flohack a few days ago I used the installer on the Windows 10 side of my main system and it worked great.
So, I am retiring my Nexus 5 UT phone (for the second time since my Pinephone cellular radio is shot) and I am now using my (newly purchased from Woot.com) Pixel 2xl, with UT, as my new daily driver. So far, so good (for the most part).
Great job -
@Flohack That network crash may not be specifcally a Pixel 2XL thing. Just had the same thing happen on my N6P on the 6-14-2021 Dev build.
