So . . . just to make things more interesting (and somewhat confusing) . . .

T-Mobile in the US has decided to leave it's 2G service up for now (although, it is my understanding that the 2G coverage area has been slowly shrinking and will eventually be shutdown).
I placed my SIM inside my Nexus 5 and was shocked that I could still make calls (which sent me to dive deeper and find out why).

At some point I will test how reliable using 2G for calls is (my guess is urban areas have somewhat reliable coverage, but rural coverage will be horrible [based on what I remember the service was like back in the day]).

I might even re-install UT on my Pixel 2XL (my daily driver).

@flohack a few days ago I used the installer on the Windows 10 side of my main system and it worked great.
So, I am retiring my Nexus 5 UT phone (for the second time since my Pinephone cellular radio is shot) and I am now using my (newly purchased from Woot.com) Pixel 2xl, with UT, as my new daily driver. So far, so good (for the most part).

And I am back using Android . . . ugh . . . I am going to really miss UT . . . thanks again for guiding me through my return to Android, and the wonderful years I had with UT on my Nexus 4, Nexus5, and Pixel 2XL.

I am sad to be leaving (my favorite mobile OS since webOS) . . . but the shutting down of 3g in the states has caught up to me.

Has anyone successfully removed Ubuntu Touch and reinstalled Android on a Pixel 2XL?
I cannot seem to find documentation on how to do it.
The recovery software is missing features, the installer doesn't have an option to reinstall Android, and I cannot seem to control the phone through the terminal (I am currently running Manjaro on my desktop).

The phone doesn't restart anymore (except during an update sequence), and it takes a long press (~20 secs) to power the phone on.
Also, bluetooth doesn't work if the WiFi is off, sometimes the keyboard acts up and retracts after a single touch, plus every now and then the phone calls have problems.
In addition, gapless music playback doesn't happen, the battery icon doesn't show when it's charging, at apps get hung up from time to time.
Yet, I am still able to use my 2xl as my daily driver.

So . . . because my Nexus 5 has serious issues (broken Mic, weak battery, no 3G anymore), and my Pinephone's cellular modem isn't working anymore, I find myself looking for a new device (one that functions well enough in the US); And, I am close to taking a chance with the Astro Slide (because I like the form factor with a physical keyboard [and I am hoping that eventually there will be at least one Linux Phone OS capable of functioning as a daily driver]).
Although, I might just pick up a Goggle Pixel 3a, install UT, and use that as my daily driver for the next couple of years.
Either way I enjoyed reading this older post . . . and couldn't resist commenting.
