I know it’s stupid and would be unbelievably slow, I want to know if it’s possible. I saw that using libertine you can run desktop software on a phone running Ubuntu touch so my next logical question is, how far can you push it?

Even if it’s a buggy slow mess, I’m wondering if it is even possible to do?

My phone comes in this week and I’m so excited to get started, screw it up, wipe and re-flash it, then screw it all up again! 😁

@heyspencerb Libertine uses either chroot or potentially lxc containers. That is not a full OS emulation as all these containers re-use the host os kernel. In order to run Windows you'd need something more powerful that would allow to run the whole OS including a different kernel. And unless you had a Windows for ARM installation you'd also need to emulate hardware (CPU) in order to run the full fledged desktop Windows.

So albeit technically possible as there are these kind of emulators for Android no one has done it as it would make little sense. And if anyone would dive into that I guess it would be much more useful to try to make Wine for ARM run on our phones as there may come a time when there are a bit more Windows ARM apps available considering that MS has not given up on that over the years yet.

@zubozrout Good point, better to cut out the middle man and get WINE working first. Is there somewhere to learn more about what applications can run on Libertine and what can't?

screw it up, wipe and re-flash it, then screw it all up again! 😁

I can certainly help you with that 😁

For what it's worth, I was running Libre Office on a different phone, (Cosmo), for a while, (till I screwed it all up again for an unrelated reason), mainly just the spreadsheet app. It was a little quirky at first with screen resolution and size, but tweakable and definitely usable.

@hobanwashburn I have a feeling the same answers will follow you round when asking that question. You can install Openoffice in libertine ( I did once or at least a couple of items) but on the small screen they are unusable same with Firefox. As for conecting to an external monitor and viewing that way again IIRC far from ideal on the devices it works with. More a proof of concept though someone may know different.
