Interested in Volla ubuntu

Hello friends
Recently found out about the Volla phone, interestingly it can be obtained with ubuntu, from a previous experience on a different phone though also "Linux" was also an option the experience left a bad taste in my mouth since it was not even in its alpha form even trying multiple OSes like sailfish and basically debian, between it had multiple OSes option, so I was left with android and gave it to my son.
What is actually supported with Ubuntu and what is not "in general".
Thank you for your feedback. -
@steve
I don't know what device you tested, but mine is a full working daily device since 2015...For Volla, there is plainty threads here, on top of its device page, to know what works and not.

@steve Hey! Don't take only my word for it, but i have been using the Volla phone with UT for over a month now. Wether it's good for you or not depends how you want to use it, az a phone, it's totally functional, you can make calls, send texts, or e-mail, take pictures, listen to music and browse the web, as on any normal phone. Appvise it's very limited compared to android and ios, and most webapps are half baked, but just functionall. Theres a PROBLEM with the UI due to the rounded corners, and the v-noch of the camera. There's a fix for the corners here on the forum, the v-noch i couldn't find anything, but it's not the end of the world. I find it a good phone, and if you don't like UT you can easily change it to volla os, that's just a custom andtoid, if I'm not mistaken.

Hello!
I'm using a volla phone for some time now.
It has it's flaws, i'll give you that, but it's a fun device to use. If you want to use something else than android or Ios, this is a good alternative. There aren't that many apps available, but that's a chicken and egg problem.
I'd say, go ahead and see what's what. I'm using the Ubuntu touch version.

Maybe stupid question, but I may have to switch to a new phone, and I'm also looking at Volla Phone / Phone X as possible replacement. Can anyone tell me the dimensions in cm (...x...x...x) of these phones? I couldn't find it.
-
@alter hi! What i could find online (from a third party website) is 79x162.4x15.3 mm, though these numbers feel a bit odd for me, i'd say calculate with a couple milimeters less than that, especially the thickness, theres no way it's 15.
-
@alter Did you check specifications and data on their website?

Maybe size you found is for the X...
Edit :
I found 157 x 75.1 x 9.65 mm for the non X.
And 162.4 x 79 x 15.3 mm for the X
^^ -
@keneda it most deffinitely wasn't the x, but there could be some mixup. Those numbers sound appropriate though thanks for the correction.
Edit: Sorry for the mixup. -
Thanks everyone for the replies! Couldn't find it on Volla's site, except for 6.3 inch display.

@jimpson You wrote βIt has it's flaws, but it's a fun device to useβ. What do you consider the flaws still present in Volla Phone running the latest UT at this moment? I'm asking because I try to get a full picture, so I know what to expect in case I buy one.

Hello everyone
We have an excellent page to see the features of all supported devices: -
@bolly Haha, I know. But reviews by actual users can complement the picture.

I say this because of the size of the mobile phone.
-
@bolly I didn't get that, sorry! Wow, that's great that UT's device page shows these specs too!

I probably didn't explain myself as well as I could have.
Yes, it's great, Capsia and more people are doing a great job. -
@bolly No problem! And, yes, they're doing a wonderful job!

@alter Hello and sorry for the late reply.
After using this device for some time now i can say this:
with flaws i mean the following: the wifi is a joke. Let's face it. Half of the time the device can't or won't connect to trusted wifi networks. A mobile connection works fine,, but that's beside the point.
Other point of interrest is this: it needs rebooting from time to time to keep working. sometimes it just stops working, or reboots on it's own.
Bluetooth can be dodgy. Either it will recognize a device and pair flawless, or it won't. Sometimes the connection just drops without warning or message. (Rather annoying).
So these are things that developers need to work on and you should take into consideration when buying a volla phone with ub touch.
I haven't tried the volla os yet. -
@jimpson Thank you for sharing your experience with UT on Volla! You still use the Volla Phone now? May I ask which channel (stable, RC...) and in/outside EU (some issues may be related to mobile bands outside EU not supported)? According to its device page, wifi and bluetooth should work. For wifi, no bands or types are mentioned. If they don't work (reliably), have you filed a bug report or notified developers? Apparently, they are already aware of the reboot issue, but I find it hard to interpret the status of bug fix. For me, stable mobile and mobile data are important.
-
@jimpson I don't know which of the phones you have, mine is Volla X and I must say that it works almost flawless. Ocassional issues: 1 time/week it looses the LTE connection. After a reboot it should be ok, if not switch on 3G and lave it like the for an hour or so and switch back to 4G. Bluetooth has issues with paired devices: just Forget Device and reconnect again. Other than that, just the Notification LED, but these are minor issues, even Android devices face them once in a while.
