@nocturn-adrift UPDATE: So, I plugged my phone in to my computer and tapped by memory my passcode. For a second, I saw my screen at minimal brightness. As soon as I tapped the screen, the screen returned back to complete darkness.

I am going to try a few things with connections. Hang tight.

Not sure if this post will help:
          https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6709/how-to-manually-change-brightness-options-through-adb-or-ssh
          including this link:

It's for a different device (pinephone) but I thought it might point you in the direction of the right file to modify.

@moncon Do you happen to know how to access an mtp device from the terminal? My file manager isn't giving me a path I can cd to

@nocturn-adrift UPDATE: I am trying to do a reset without wiping my data. The desktop installer is running with admin permissions (sudo), but isn't restarting the phone.

Does anyone know if the bootloader on the phone, when pressing factory reset, will allow a reset without a personal data wipe, or will the data be wiped on there automatically if I press it?

Sorry, I wouldn't know where to start, I'm more copy and paste to the command line and hope for the best.
A quick search for 'mtp' on here doesn't throw up many recent results, but a quick search on https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ does show your OP5 at least should have mtp access.
Hopefully someone else with some more knowledge than me will be along in a minute.

                  Before touching the file...
Did you put the phone under a strong light?
Did you enter a dark room?
I say this in case you have automatic brightness.

You need to unlock the phone for MTP to be accessible.
Also I managed to get out of this situation (on the Pinephone) by changing the setting by memory, so blindly unlock the screen slide from the top and adjust the slider...
                    Tricky but doable.

@bolly @aarontheissueguy @MonCon So, I resorted to attempt to use the UBports installer to do a wipe. I went to the UB bootloader on my phone, wiped the system, and attempted an install. This was unsuccessful and I went about doing this a few times.
Eventually I decided to wipe my data and my system. I attempted to go through the installer again, which was unsuccessful.
Now I am at a point to where my phone is stuck on the Oneplus "Powered by Android" bootscreen (this would run before the UT bootscreen normally). It seems as if it is unable to boot. When I open up Caja on my computer and attempt to open the device, it tells me "this device cannot boot". I think my phone is soft-bricked, and am trying to reinstall the stock firmware on this model.

UPDATE: Somehow, I was actually able to get to the UBports Recover Bootloader. I am going to try to do a fresh reinstall from here. Wish me luck.
