Further question - Would it be possible to add hardware issues to the devices information to assist users in the choice of hardware that they are going to purchase?

        Examples are:
Nexus 5 irreparable boot loop unless you have a re-flow machine, even then not guaranteed to work.
Nexus 7 (2013) both versions - screen issues usually motherboard. USB port charging issues.
Nexus 4 - very common to have the lower touchscreen not working which requires replacement
SONY phones may not be able to unlock the bootloader - very common
Xiaomi phones - difficult to unlock the bootloader as you have to do it through their Mi Unlock program. If you are unlocking more than one you may have a long wait (up to a month per phone) and there is no work round (that I have found that works).

Also as a side note a lot of devices have battery life issues which is usually down to the age and previous usage of that device, not always Ubuntu Touch (Nexus 4 and 5 with batteries dating back to 2013 are OK, must have been well made!)

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7.... And more...
        I have too many devices...

Can Open-Store.io / Ubuntu Touch Apps run on ios and android?

Or kind of like the opposite of Anbox, is there like a "UT Anbox"?

This question might be easy for someone to answer who sees it and may not need to be brought up in the Q&A

          thank you

What is the kind of help that UBports, right now, needs most of all? In other words, how can we at this moment best support UBports and the transition towards the 20.04 base?

            Is currently using an Op5t
Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.

I am struggling to see which way Ubuntu Touch is going. I love the idea of being able to install it on manufacturer's orphaned hardware such as the Nexus 7 to breath new life into it so it doesn't end up in landfill, yet their seems continual talk of upgrading to 20.04 and discarding all this older hardware.

It would be nice to know if there is some kind of "Porting Plan" and which devices are on that list, if there is such a thing ?!

Also a list of SystemD incompatible phones must be available by now ??

3G may be on it's way out, but calls and SMS are generally 2G and anything else can be done on WiFi. Would it not be more prudent to look at porting on older hardware as well as newer hardware so it stops E-waste?

The issue is : Which devices are worth the effort ?!
And for example : Is it possible to buy spare batteries for them ??

Something I am really struggling with at the moment in my search for a nice looking phone that is supported by the future 20.04 LTS Release 😕

Ubuntu Touch is also very very niche and basically enthusiast orientated - I got a relative using my BQ Aquaris 4.5 as his phone got smashed and I had to wait to get a screen to repair it. It just didn't work for him due to way he used his phone with certain apps that just cannot be replicated with open source (banking etc).

100% user issue : Banking stuff should not have been on our phones in the first place! 😉

People need to let get of their Android/iOS habbits just like they need to let go of their old Windows habbits when switching to a Linux distro 🙂

To me the app store is great, but maybe more mainstream apps, even if they are web apps should be encouraged to bring in a larger audience?

Actually I would like to see Ubuntu Touch let go of the apps concept and concentrate on running adaptable Native Desktop QT Applications! 🙂

Please let go of what that annoying fruit brand guy has forced upon us and we are stuck with at the moment and hopefully not too long in the future! 😉

On the other side of this though, if the Volla phone and Pine phone want to grab a share of the market, surely more mainstream apps would make these more competitive and again open Ubuntu touch (and Ubuntu) to a wider audience?

Wider audience = The Mass = A lot of dumb people!

So watch out with what you wish for! 😉

              Good idea! 🙂

But I am confused by the Xiaomi and Sony stuff :

              • Sony has their Open Devices program which is basically what Jolla Sailfish bases their Sony devices support on ?!
              • Xiaomi phones can sometimes also be unlocked without their Mi Account stuff ?!

              My phones :

              • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
              • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
              • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

              P.S. : I am NOT a developer! ;)

I still have not been able to unlock an Xiaomi phones bootloader without creating an account and using their unlock tool. Searched high and low for a solution.
SONY is a pain as I have gone through the open devices and cannot get an unlock code for the bootloader for any of my SONY phones as when I check the flag for the ability to unlock, it always states no.

I wouldn't call the masses dumb as if you can capture a mere fraction of these peoples interest, the money and possible innovation they have the potential to provide could move a project like Ubuntu Touch forward and they are out there from my experience. Most though are users and just want it to work without having to think about it, that is why apps are so popular and that popularity is a self perpetuating cycle until something better comes along that is just as easy and thoughtless to use.

It depends on the model ofcourse, but I have seen people unlock some models via ADB and moving forward with the flashing process 🙂

                  Hmm... that's weird...

Which Xiaomi and Sony models had all these issues ?!

I wouldn't call the masses dumb as if you can capture a mere fraction of these peoples interest.

That's the issue : The mass has no interest in their devices!

They don't care about how anything works! 😞

the money and possible innovation they have the potential to provide could move a project like Ubuntu Touch forward and they are out there from my experience.

                  I think otherwise... sorry! 😉

Most though are users and just want it to work without having to think about it

                  That's the whole issue!

I see it almost daily on most forums... 😕

that is why apps are so popular and that popularity is a self perpetuating cycle until something better comes along that is just as easy and thoughtless to use.

Apps are so popular because they are forced upon us and let's face it : Dumbing down is EVERYWHERE and a part of that process are dumbass apps!

People have forgotten which way the world was heading and how they were mislead to go the wrong way by just one overhyped fruit company and later on their search engine friends! 😉

                  My phones :

                  • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
                  • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x

                    App Roundup:

GCompris was updated to version 2.0 ported by Lionel, a educational suite of games.

Logviewer was forked by Rudi Timmermans, they have been merging some new features, and now easier to share logs.

Puzzle Master ported by me - a jigsaw puzzle with multitouch, this game from Venemo was wrtten with many mulitplatform features, one featue im hoping to get help on is selecting a custom image.

@nero355: I'm not sure which community you've been in, but talking like this is not acceptable here.

People who aren't interested in computers like you are, are not dumb. Everyone has different tastes, priorities, and education, but none of these things necessarily make someone "less smart" than someone else. Consider whether there is anything that you do (driving, taking care of your health, tidying up, organization) that you do worse than other people. Are you less intelligent for having different priorities and skills?

Ubuntu Touch is built for people who are not as knowledgeable about the operating system as its team. There are many Linux distributions for which this is not the case, and those are good for different purposes. If you are trying to apply your own experience as someone knowledgeable about the principles of computing to an operating system that isn't really designed for you, it's not our fault that the design has mismatched. It's yours.

If this misunderstanding is going to continue, I'd recommend that you find another project that suits your priorities better. But I don't think you'll find any community that takes great pleasure in calling people dumb.

                            My question:

Why Bitcoin donation method is removed?

While UBPorts delivers freedom in the mobile computing sphere, Bitcoin on another hand provides similar freedoms in financial sphere - a nice cooperation, unless there is regulatory pressure for non-profit to avoid cryptocurrencies..?

                              You are overreacting...

Do you have any idea how often people buy a bunch of random products and then ask other people how to connect them all together ?!

Do you have any idea how often people show ZERO interest or effort to learn how a device they have bought actually works and what all the available options/settings do ?!

And don't get me started about claims about a OS beeing user friendly because people know how to use it but meanwhile have no idea how to fix any issues that can happen by their own mistake of some update/upgrade/patch to that OS 😕

All these things are simply the current reality and pinpointing those issues should be a normal thing instead of a taboo...

Dalton's answer is correct and maybe you should consider that maybe you were out of line.

@nero355 Well I am one of the dumb masses who has no idea how a phone works, and I resent your appalling arrogance. If you want to think of me as an ignorant peasant that's your right, but common courtesy demands that you keep such thoughts to private correspondence. A public forum requires civilised levels of behaviour which you clearly have no idea about.
