@alextcranglesim Yes, for me that did the trick.

        Is currently using an Op5t
Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.

@moem Thanks, I have clearly made a mistake somewhere - in the android developer settings, I have enabled OEM unlocking, but if I click ignore on the error above, the device reboots to bootloader and says device state - locked and my only options are start phone, turn off phone, and restart bootloader.

          Thanks,

          Alex

Please try without the Oneplus firmware upgrade (uncheck the box). Its an optional step to bring some firmware to altest version, but will also work without.

@alextcranglesim No do not ignore the error but uncheck the option before installation begins πŸ˜‰ also:

              • If your device ran Android before with an ecrypted partition its good to format data with TWRP before, to really ged rid of that for sure. The installer has issues removing encrpyted partitions sometimes

@flohack Hi! Thanks for helping out - it previously did have encryption but I did a factory reset in the hopes that it would have cleared that out. I have no real experience with using TWRP, I have been following the progress of ubports via my BQ E4.5 but as that is basically a brick now, I decided I should give it a go on my old OP5T. Do you have a guide/link somewhere to using TWRP to remove the partition? If not, no worries!

                Thanks,

                Alex

sidenote: the .zip it tries to download can be downloaded through a PC, so I'm not sure why the installer can't reach it.

@flohack If I try without ticking the box for the latest firmware, the device reboots to the same bootloader screen which says device state: locked
the ubports installer shows flashing firmware, instead of rebooting device - but nothing appears on the phone apart from the bootloader menu - so I suspect nothing is happening.

Then that is the problem. You will need to unlock the bootloader first. The duck knows how.

See, you did enable unlocking the bootloader; you did not actually unlock it yet.

After moving to using a mac, the installer ran successfully (it doesn't work with the firmware ticked though!)

So what am I missing without that firmware, and will it be possible to re-install at a later date with that firmware included?

Also is it possible to re-lock the bootloader after installing ubuntu touch, to remove the screen that appears on reboot?

                            Thanks,

                            Alex

Hello, yes you can reinstall it later it's not an issue.
What you're missing are vendor's updates on some firmware.
Featurewise I don't know what it means but probably not much.
Securitywise it's better to update as it often increase stability and fixes bugs.

Regarding the bootloader: you should not
                              See: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/7440/bootloader

No. The best way to deal with that screen is to look at it and gloat, because it means that you have freed another device from Google's evil grip. ☺️

If your phone gets OTA updates, you don't need the installer anymore for normal use.
Just wait for any update release (like coming OTA22 the 18th february) to be announced here and then go to phone settings and then "updates".

Edit : sorry i didn't see that was relative to vendor firmwares, not UT πŸ˜…

                                      Hi,

I was advised on the github for the installer to try the latest installer to get the firmware working.

The installer had no errors attempting to download the firmware, however when it tries to install the OS the phone turns off. (installer gets to rebooting to bootloader)

Current OS is ubuntu touch, developer mode is enabled & bootloader is still unlocked.

It is recognised in ./adb devices
However the same issue occurs when running ./adb reboot fastboot - the device powers off.

                                      Any ideas?

                                      Thanks,

                                      Alex

@alextcranglesim Can you put it into bootloader manually and go from there. Hold power and volume up (iirc) go to fastboot and the installer should then do the rest.

@lakotaubp thanks for this tip! I had to unplug it (as it wouldn't boot to fastboot plugged in) and the installer did indeed continue!
