Perhaps "minimize" is the wrong term, but it expresses the concept I'm interested in doing.

Basically, I'd like to be able to have my running applications available on the "side bar panel" and still running, and also have the desktop region clear. But I can't figure out how to do that.

          Hello,
          This is no longer possible.
If you want a clean desktop you'll have to close all the running apps.

Maybe using an alternative launcher can do the trick for you, but I never tried it out.

You can do this if you activate computer mode.
But not very convinient as you need to minimize each app.
