GPS on Redmi Note 9 Pro (joyeuse)
-
There was a discussion on GPS for the note 9s here:
https://forums.ubports.com/topic/7047/gps-not-working-on-redmi-note-9sI'd like to report/discuss GPS for the note 9 pro (joyeuse). In the thread for the note 9s I think the conclusion was that GPS in Ubuntu Touch works (steps need to be followed as given in the documentaiton (https://docs.ubports.com/en/latest/userguide/dailyuse/location.html), but GPS in Waydroid does not work.
In my case, its is the other way round: Also after giving ~1.5 hours for trying to get a first fix using the SensorsStatus app from the OpenStore, I dont get a GPS signal. However, when using the "GPS Cockpit" android app in Waydroid, I get a GPS signal after a few seconds.
I'm not sure why its different (I understand the same UT port is being used for both devices). Can other joyeuse users confirm whether they see a similar behaviour?

@ra the SensorStatus app doesn't worked for me so far.
Please download any other app like Pure Maps, approve the location access request then follow the instructions in the documentation above.
Sometimes a reboot can help too.

@nitanmarcel Thanks, I tried with uNav and finally got a fix. Now, I can also get GPS information in the SensorStatus app.
PureMaps does not work on my device (App can be installed but does not start). -
@ra It is broken on stable, but should work on rc and devel. You can either wait for the next OTA or you can switch channels if you need Pure Maps.

Thanks for the information, I am indeed on stable and will wait for the next OTA.

The port for the Miatoll device Redmi Note 9 Pro seems to have been made a lot worse than there are improvements. Waidroid cannot be installed via helper app simply crashes after half 50%. Had to get the stuff via terminal. Try a week or two with UT whether something improves. My opinion about it I do not have to write further. Happy Easter

@dpitti WayDroid is not part of Ubuntu Touch and is a totally separated project created by separated people. Same goes with Waydroid Helper which is an app made by a separate developer.
Both of the projects above are not affiliated with Ubuntu Touch or UbPorts.
Please report any issues with Waydroid Helper in the following github repository https://github.com/Aarontheissueguy/WaydroidHelper
For WayDroid they have a telegram group at https://t.me/WayDroid.
Another group where you can get help with your problem is https://t.me/waydroidonut a group made for users which are using WayDroid on Ubuntu Touch.
Thanks for your understanding .

@nitanmarcel Thanks, I'll sign up again when I get a chance. I had also signed out of your group. Waydroid is now running again, but it's a shame because I can't find any gapps as an apk download.
-
@dpitti That is completely unrelated to this thread and also affects all Waydroid installations no matter the device. Nonetheless, you can install F-Droid and/or Aurora Store, which is going to allow you to install most of the apps from the Android store. Of course with missing Google Play services it won't enable you to run everything, but I've been able to get e.g. some banking apps I need running this way.

@zubozrout
"Micro G" i heard about... -
@zubozrout yes Thank You.

@keneda I haven't had much luck with these despite having them installed. Either because I was doing something wrong or because I picked the wrong apps to try with. Fortunately I don't need these for the few apps that I have to use.
