        Hello there,

I have a keen interest in Linux and recently I installed ubuntu touch on my phone. But unfortunately, the app support is pretty bad. Is it possible to install chrome or any desktop Debian version of the software in Ubuntu touch? I went through some posts but it was no help.

@pranishres No, it doesn't support it for various reasons. App support is pretty good, considering the people that write them are enthusiasts and volunteers from the UT community.

You can try Waydroid to install Android apps, I don't know if the Oneplus3/3T is supported:

Well, that's a bit more complicated than that, there is no support from ubports for installing directly desktop apps on UT, but one alternative way is supported, and it is libertine contener.

And of course, as everyone can do whatever they want on their devices, they can brake OTA system update trying to install directly on UT after making system r/w, even if it can brake the whole OS, liberty it is ^^

That's right! Here is some information on that: https://docs.ubports.com/en/latest/userguide/dailyuse/libertine.html

Note that desktop browsers, like (desktop) Chrome, typically are a pain to use because they do not scale for small screens and are not made for a touch interface. The same goes for many other applications made for desktop computers. Libertine is at its best with terminal applications.

              Is currently using an Op5t
Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.

@keneda I was being really generic because there have been previous discussions on this and the general consensus has been no to other browsers for various reasons I cannot remember or talk about the technical intricacies of why not. I also know that libertine and waydroid are helpful here. However in my world, if you want an alternative to Android or iOS, why would you want Android or iOS apps to run harvesting your data (and I am being hypocritical as I know in the past I have said the only way to encourage mainstream UT use is to have mainstream apps, like Facebook, Whatsapp etc..).

But that is my world, and people as you said can experiment and do as they please with their device, liberty it certainly is....:beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Unfortunately the inclusion of the word "Ubuntu" in the name Ubuntu Touch misleads people into thinking it is a computer operating sytem like all the other Linux distributions. In reality it is not. UT is a telephone operating system that requires its own specific applications.
