Volla phone touch screen freeze.
-
@quget my screen acted up today. It did random inputs several times without me touching the screen.
Well no freezes yet.

I've been on the RC channel for a while now.
The issue of screen becoming no reactive has not disappeared, but it looks that it does not happen as often as before. For the first hour or so after upgrading to RC, it worked perfectly. Then it started freezing again.
The other issue, several random apps opening without a touch, is also here.
Something I've also noticed anecdotally is that when the battery is low the issue of non reactive screen is worse, but I do not have any evidence on this.
By the way, it seems this issue is device specific, may be some mod could move this thread to the Volla Phone subforum.
-
I've opened a new issue:
https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/1998
Please feel free to comment there if you are affected.

@wgarcia Did you just previously use hotspot or vpn when this bug happened?

No sooner read than done

@wgarcia If you think the issue is device specific, you can open an issue here :

@domubpkm No, no hotspot.

same things happened some time on Pixel 3a XL

After posting about this in the Volla Phone with Ubuntu Touch Telegram group, somebody informed that this is also happening with Volla OS, not only with Ubuntu Touch, and that it is recommended that we get in touch with Customer Support.
Somebody else pointed out that it may be due to a dirty screen, and that after cleaning it, it goes away for him. So worth trying that too. I have a screen protector and I think this is not compatible with the random opening of apps, but let's try it also.
-
@wgarcia I have a screen protector too... And the original cover case, it can "touch" the screen I think at the screen border... Maybe I should remove all of them, clean phone and try for some days...
-
Personally, I don't use a screen protector with my Volla (just the flexible plastic shell of the smartphone) and I'm quite a fan of clean screens and anti-fingerprint cleaning spray. Generally speaking, I have much fewer problems than those described. And the fairly rare for me random input with no touch problems (sometimes when writting SMS or with the unlock code of the phone) don't come from a dirty screen in my opinion.
-
@wgarcia I have no screen protector and cleaned my screen seberal times with no succes
I guess I try to contact Volla Support -
@quget
I got the same problem. The Volla support suggested to try to clean the display, and eventually to send it back.
I cleaned it but no result. I suspect is a display problem. -

I cleaned it but no result. I suspect is a display problem.Same here, but sending back is not an option for me. I dont have a good working replacement phone. If it was just dirty, I am curious how locking and unlocking make it work again.

For those who have this issue in a frequent and annoying way, I think that it would be necessary all the same to check that a total reinstallation with the instaler (with wipe option) does not solve the problem. Of course, the necessary backups must be taken before.
-
@domubpkm Thanks, good to know. On my part I got answer from the Volla support service, and they also suggested to clean the screen and try to replace the screen protector if there is one. I haven't had time to do this properly, but I will do it in about a week. They told me that in case the issue persists, I should contact them again.

May there be a relation between the Volla screen freezes and the Volla notch fix by @Jami Kettunen? Who of you has or hasn't installed this notch fix?
-
@gt No relation. I have the notch fix since a very long time and no problem of screen freeze for me. Maybe it's due to a malfunction of the screen or something else. If you have the courage, you should try a complete reinstallation of UT to eliminate the hypothesis of a software malfunction.

I finally got to take out my screen protector (the screen was obviously very clean under the screen protector), took out the case protector, and have been running with the phone without anything for two days, that is, without any protection. I waited to do this at a moment when the unresponsiveness described above was extreme (a couple of turning off/on was needed each time I needed to do anything).
The change was immediate, the phone became perfectly responsive, and I haven't seen a glitch in this for two days.
So, in my case, the problem was the screen protector. I haven't tried to put a new one yet. In my case this problem seems to be solved.
