Does fingerprint scanner work on UT for Mi A2?
-
The fingerprint reader is supposed to work from my understanding, but I have no way to configure a fingerprint. There is only options for swipe, code and passphrase in settings.
UT seems to be otherwise working correctly. I'm on the RC branch. But I have tried the stable branch before with no luck. FIY the fingerprint reader works just fine with any android ROM I've tried.
Has anyone been able to get fingerprint to work with UT on their Mi A2?
Unsure if it could be related, but is there a specific android 9 stock ROM I'm supposed to use before installing UT? I downloaded the latest stock ROM that is still android version 9 (ROM version 10.0.17.0). Found it here: https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/miui/jasmine/
Edit: When i installed the stock ROM i used fastboot, not recovery mode, could this be a problem? -
@lot On my Volla Phone X the top level menu under 'security' has an option 'fingerprint ID' at the top of the screen. Clicking on this lets you add fingerprints. After this has been OKed then from the top level of 'Security' f you select the second option down 'locking & unlocking' you should have the option 'Lock security'. Clicking on this should then give you four options, 'swipe (no security)', '4 digit passcode', 'passphrase', and 'fingerprint'.

@ian Thanks for the response. I assume the menu you're talking about is the "privacy and security" menu in the settings app? I unfortunately can't find any fingerprint setting there. I've looked through every menu I can find on this phone.
Update: Searched on github issues and found this: https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/1877
Looking at the linked issue it seems like fingerprint setting missing may have been a problem for a while. Looks like it is because of a proprietary library built for 15.04, no longer working on 16.04.Perhaps the device features and usability list should be updated that the fingerprint sensor is not working.

@lot on my Mi A2 stable it is there and works well..!

@magnargj Huh. Good to know that it should be possible to get it to work. Do you happen to remember the install process? What stock ROM did you have on your phone before installing for example. Did you set up a finger print on the phone before installing? Just brain storming here what I could try to make it work.
Maybe there's different manufacturers of the fingerprint sensor, and I'm unlucky which one I got.

@lot hmm, don't really remember the specifics, but I documented the process here: https://forums.ubports.com/post/50931

The finger print option is definitely broken in devel as the link mentioned above.

Using focal OTA1, fingerprint is working on my Mi A2 with a Goodix fingerprint sensor. It also worked flawlessly with different versions of xenial UT.
If I recall correctly from lineageOS forums in XDA, Mi A2 can include two different fingerprint sensors: Goodix and FPC. This may be related to some devices having problems with fingerprint under UT. To check the type of sensor, in my phone there is a folder /sys/class/goodix_fp.
