        Hi all,

I am new to ubuntu touch (on a Pinephone) and love it so far!

Unfortunately, I have trouble connecting to eduroam. eduroam is a Wifi network available in many academic institutions that uses 'WPA2 enterprise' encryption, so that I need to be able to select some settings (such as MSCHAPV2) and a corresponding certificate.

When I first tried to connect, I think there was a proper settings dialog. But I did not have the certificate available, so I cancelled the connection attempt.

Now, when I select eduroam there seems to be a settings dialog briefly available, but that one is instantly replaced by a dialog that only asks for a password. The section 'Security' in that dialog is empty. Obviously, that is not enough and connection attempts fail.

(I had a look in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ but there is no entry for eduroam.)

So, my question is: how do I connect to eduroam?

I think I used to use some certificate available in /etc/ssl/certs/. According to: https://www.en-zdv.uni-mainz.de/connect-to-eduroam-with-linux/ (and quite a few other sources as well) it should be "T-TeleSec_GlobalRoot_Class_2.pem" but I am not sure and I don't remember it as it has sadly been a while since I was a student. Nonetheless you can probably just download the certificate from some site of your university and based on what you say you probably already have one.

Unfortunately as to your problem with the configuration I am not sure why would it behave like that. But perhaps you can try going to WiFi settings and connecting to a hidden network? You only need to set "Eduroam" as the WiFi network name (SSID) there and the rest of the dialogue will be exactly the same as if you clicked on connecting to an unknown network.

are you on 16.04/xenial or 20.04/focal? There's a recent thread for focal about advanced wifi security not working here with eduroam as the example (though no solution/answer either):

I'm in 20.04 stable on a Volla Phone and I can connect to Eduroam. The connection drops from time to time, but usually I'm connected.

In my university there is no need for a certificate for Linux (including Ubuntu Touch). It is needed for Windows and Mac, and I think also for Android and IOS.

@gandalf Thanks for the link. That is exactly my problem. OK, will monitor that other thread then...

@ringprince have you tried deleting the connection and starting from scratch?
In the Wifi settings menu, you can list the previously connected (even only attempted) networks. It is the last option of the menu.
Once you delete the corresponding entry (eduroam), try to connect again to Eduroam and it will show up the complete dialog window with all the options (security, certificate, etc.)

@aimar Thanks for the suggestion. I did try that. But since I never successfully connected to that network it is not listed under 'Previous networks'. I also had a look in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections but also there is no entry for that network.

In case it helps narrow down the issue, it works for me on 16.04/xenial on a BQ E4.5.
