Advice for a new phone
-
Dear All,
Some years ago I run UT on a BQ 4 as a daily driver and for testing on a Google Nexus 5.
Most things worked, and I was satisfied, but because of work changes, I needed to switch
to an Android phone again.Currently, I use a Samsung A40, but screen has cracks and battery is becoming weak,
so I would like to get another phone, maybe a FP 4/5 and try again Ubuntu Touch (with Waydroid). There are 3 main apps I essentially need: TrustID, ZConnect and Raffeisen-ID for work.
Is this feasible? I would keep the A40 and slowly migrate to the FP.
Thanks a lot for the feedback

@cherrie Unfortunately, only someone who has tried these specific apps can tell you whether Waydroid contains 'enough Google' to run those apps succesfully.

Hello.
I can't give you a precise answer, but on my phone (Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro), whether running Focal (20.04) or Noble (24.04), Waydroid works very well.
And thanks to the Aurora app (which allows you to use the Play Store without (or with) a Google account), I was able to install and use Itsme (the official Belgian app for logging into the government website), the 2factors app to connect to my work VPN, and my banking app (Crelan Mobile). -
@cherrie One way of checking, if you have a Linux installation, is to install Waydroid there and try, Waydroid can be installed in most Linux distributions.

Hi @cherrie,
I think that if one of the desired apps checks the device for bootloader look/unlook status, it will not be possible to install it. This is mainly done by security apps such as login apps or banking apps.
Please note that this is my opinion, and it has only been tested on one device with E-OS.
Greetings Mario
