I followed all of the instructions listed in the UBports and Fairfone pages to get my refurbished Fairfone 5 installed with UBports installer.
It still has boot loader screen after removing the battery and re-installing it and then loads the 'Fairphone powered by android' screen come up but it won't load. The disks & devices screen on my Kubuntu is saying 'failed to Boot'.
        Any hope for it now?

Have you tried reinstalling the official images from Fairphone?
Note that you should install the Android 13 version.

Sorry your description of what you did is not fully clear to me.

Did you try to flash the FP5-TT4H-factory.zip file according to this page:

            https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/18896094650513-How-to-manually-install-Android-on-your-Fairphone

if yes, did it fail and which messages appear on the phone screen ?

if it worked, did you unlock the boot loader ?

I did not suffer from the problem 'flashing the phone to an earlier Android version without Oem unlocklng', operation said to brick the phone due to some Android protection feature, could someone have been doing this very forbidden thing in the life of this refurbished device ? I think that you need to pay Fairphone to solve it (not sure).

My description of what I did is that I tried to install UPports Linux version on to the refurbished Fairfone 5 using UBports installer application, if that clears things up.

                I tried https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/18896094650513-How-to-manually-install-Android-on-your-Fairphone
and got this after running ./flash_fp5_factory.sh from the console where flash_fp5_factory.sh was installed
WARNING: No Fairphone 5 found in fastboot mode.
WARNING: Make sure that a Fairphone 5 is connected.
Do you want to look for a Fairphone 5 again? [(Y)es/(n)o]: Yes

I guess that it can't now be booted to fastboot mode

I tried pressing the on and volume down buttons and I got a message
"Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM QUSB_BULK_SN:7F274555 has been connected. "
And nothing in my disks & devices screen on my Kubuntu.
Then removed and replaced the battery and got the boot loader is unlocked screen and then the screen 'Fairphone powered by android' came back but still would not boot.
After disconnecting the USB cable I then get the message 'Halium initrd Failed to boot has been disconnected.'

Got back in to fastboot by Power button. Keep holding Volume up. then reinstalled via UBports installer application. I have got UPports Ubuntu Touch on it now Dev channel. Now to test out VOLTE.
