        Hello,

        first time posting here.
Firstly thank you very much for providing an alternative to the two major mobile platforms, which are increasingly getting more restricted or werte already very restrictive from the very start.

I have several questions regarding UBPorts on the Fairphone 3+.

Currently I am running LineageOS 22.2 with unlocked bootloader.
I am using Ubuntu Linux (24.04.3 LTS) on my PCs.
I would like it very much to get a quite similar OS experience on my mobile device.
I have installed the UBPorts installer and would surely be able to flash UBPorts to my device (if i were to downgrade the android version to a stock Android 10 based image), but in the confirmation dialogue, I can not identify, which version of UBPorts will be installed.
As the latest version has several "must haves" (encryption, snap support) in it, I would really like to install this version, as the older version would not provide these features.
I did not proceed with further steps, as it was not clear which version would get installed.
I am assuming that 20.04 (focal) will be installed, as this is the release mentioned here: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/fp3/
At the same time, the announcement post for 24.04 (noble) states, that FP3+ is supported.

Which version will be installed, if I would have proceeded with the installation?
Would it be possible to upgrade this initial installation to the latest 24.04 release?
Is it currently possible to install 24.04 on the FP3+ at all?

Thank you in advance for your answers and every attempt to clarify this.

Well, I don't know what is your experience on your PC, but it's unlikely IMO because a phone is a very different device (less power, more peripherals, a battery to save) and choices have been made to adapt the system for that. The most jarring thing for people used to a distro like Ubuntu is that UT is an unmutable distro kind, more like the appliances than a classic computer. So applications are specialized things that live in a part of the system that is read/write. The base system is locked and is updated globally.

There are workarounds to adapt the system to different needs (most recently, the capability to use snap) but you have to forget about apt update; apt upgrade; apt install for the base system. It's not supported and if you do it recklessly there will be bad consequences.

Also, straight GTK applications are unlikely to work well. Quite a few Kde applications will not work well either although in this case there is more hope for better support this year.

I don't have a FP3 to verify, but for my device the preferred version can be specified at some point in the installer. If the FP3 has been verified to boot under 24.04 it must be installable I guess. FIY the devices.ubuntu-touch.io site can have outdated information. The problem is that the FP3 is not talked about often these days, so must not be tested very often either, and that it boots under 24.04 does not mean that everything that works under 20.04 will work just as well with 24.04.

            Hello,

Normally the installer should recommend you the version 24.04, but you have the choice during the installation process. Now the version 24.04 is really recommended over the version 20.04 that has some limitations, but make sure to select the stable branch of 24.04 and NOT the daily branch (that is daily builds, recommanded only for testers/devellopers).

It has snap support, but also Ubuntu Touch is shipped with an application store dedicated to mobile apps: the Open Store ( https://open-store.io/ ) , where you should find the most usefull apps for your mobile life. As for encryption I'm not sure maybe other can reply, on that.

Ps: Also note that FP3 is reported to offer an experience significatively worse than FP5 on Ubuntu touch: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/11449/how-does-your-experience-of-ut-compare-on-fp3-vs-fp5
