Delivery of incoming text messages (SMS) randomly
-
Since I changed from a POCO X3 (UT) onto a Oneplus N10 the rate of successful delivery of incoming text messages is slightly less the 50 per cent. Outgoing texts seem to be delivered by 100 per cent.
The strange thing is that when putting the sim into other devices (UT and Android based), the text messages are coming in without any problems or delay. I do not have any idea of what could be the reason of that behaviour. Any hints or suggestions would be appreciated.

@HarryBass Hmm. I don't have any great answers, but a couple ideas.
First, please state what version of UT you're using (20.04 OTA__ / 24.04___), it could help others assist you. This thread is mostly about MMS issues, but at one point the user describes losing SMS messages as well. After a few days of SMS not working, it seems that the Terminal command
sudo systemctl restart ofonocaused a bunch of undelivered messages to come streaming in.
The poster has not described whether they rebooted during the time that SMS wasn't working, but I'd suspect that one would've tried that at some point, and that for some reason the restart ofono command did something that a reboot did not.Receiving SMS half the time seems different, but I thought I'd provide what I could.
I have what seems to be unique issues with my OP N10, which also involves undelivered SMS, but if a flickering screen upon shutdown/reboot happens to you, let me know. -
@wally Thank you for trying to give me an advice related to missing text messages. I am on UT 24.04-1.1.
As I am following the threads and posts in this forum from time to time I already followed the path of the thread you mentioned with no improvement in the remarked behaviour. It sometimes sucks, because I frequently use text messages for 2-factor-authenification, when the code provided seems to be delivered to me, and I just sit and wait, and nothing happens. The workaround is to put the SIM-card every time into another device, which is kind annoying.
Anyway, you mentioned that you do have found also some things on the N10 not working correctly, which I can confirm. Despite that device is still my daily driver, but seem to have some more things to be fixed related to my former companion, a now slightly damaged POCO X3, which runs more smoothly. Although the flickering of the screen of the N10 I can not confirm.

I can't help you much as I use another device, however browsing the bugs on gitlab, maybe there is a problem with the stable version for your device when using Volte as pointed here

@gpatel-fr As I prefer using 2G most of the time, the LTE/VoLTE-thing should not be the reason of not delivering text messages most of the time. I once again checked the APN-settings just to find them correct. So at the moment I haven't got a clue.
Anyway, I thank you for your support.

note that in the issue I linked to, there was a mention of using instable (bleeding edge) to fix the problem. However you may risk other problems using instable, of course.

I want to inform you, that in the meantime it seems that the mysterious failure hopefully vanished after playing around with the settings. First of all I did a reset of the APN/ network-settings just to find that there are two options to chose from: {The providers name} and {The providers name automatically}. It occured that up to that time the chosen option has been just {The providers name} without the automatic option. Now I manually switched to the automatic one and expected no much difference. Surprisingly I received a handful of text messages sent to me within the last 48 hrs. Once more I tested some more sending texts from another device, just to remark that there are no missing messages up to now.
Just to make clear: I recently checked the APN-settings in non-automatic-mode and found them all correct. So I am still not sure of which things made the difference between the two options of chosing the provider.
Anyway, could be a happy end, I'll see. So dear admin, could you please the thread as (hopefully) solved? Thank you. HB

you can turn the thread into a question and mark it as solved yourself. I don't know why there is this feature in this forum but it's how it is.
