What do you think about the scalability of communicating mostly in telegram?
I know that the volume has surpassed a level that I can deal with. I regularly find hundreds of unread messages. For me that means, I ignore tg until, I need something, like for example ask a question in the App developers channel. Then I hang around for max 1h, wait for an answer, check two or three posts above me.
I become a more and more selfish telegram channel consumer, rather than contributing a lot.
Now, the forum exists and it does support an asynchronous, threaded communication, (while tg is basically synchronous and single thread), but it seems people default to tg, are usually pointed there first and the vast majority of the communication goes there, which is out of my sight.
How are you guys holding up with the volume? What's your thoughts?
Edit: After thinking about this for a bit more, maybe I just need to adjust my mindset. I never ever even considered "keeping up" with irc, why should this be a consideration for tg...
-
I agree with you @doniks , for me it started when i had 10 days holidays and came back with more 2000 unread messages on tg.... Now i spend more time on french group or focus groups.
I prefer forum or github issues as contributions and questions/answers need to be more structured and life longer, but there is still a need for direct communication -
@core devs: Are you bored of fixing so many regressions for such a long time? or is it perhaps just the work you crazy porting masochists like most? Would you actually prefer doing something else instead? How glad will you be, once you have got OTA-4 out? So what these questions are all about: How are you? Anything the community could do for you?

Do you know whether/how one will be able to develop apps that work on UT and on Purisms phone shell?
I assume that eventually (in the future) UT will move away from the ubuntu sdk to qt quick. If there is a transition, it would be nice to move into the right direction. I am assuming that compatibility between qt quick apps for UT and plasma mobile should not be a great challenge. But purisms phone shell is gtk based, so compatibility will be harder.
On that note, any news about qt quick app templates?
After re-reading my own question, I realize I put a lot of assumptions in there ... Feel free to just elaborate on the general topic as you see fit

Oh and of course, the elephant in the room: How's 16.04 coming along?
-
My understanding is, that the rc channel with 15.04 I am currently on with my FP2 in general is the pre OTA channel. And the OTA4 will be the first xenial release. So as on the rc 15.04 channel i will get the pre OTA4 (16.04) as rc23 without having to switch channels or do sth. else. Is that right?
-
What is going to happen when the 16.04 backlog is empty? Will there be an RC channel or will you just continue working towards a stable OTA?
-
16.04 works really well on the Pro 5. My two main hurdles for switching to it as a daily driver are:
- Camera app regression
- Calendar crashing right after launch
Do you see 16.04 happening for all supported devices simultaneously or should we expect it device for device?
Edit: What the heck, I switched already (at least for the weekend).
-
Will there be any further development on Browser Next before OTA-5? When will it be possible to create web apps based on Browser Next?
-
Will the next browser support some features of progressive web apps?
This includes service workers (background processes of javascript), offline mode, install webapp from the browser app, native system notifications and push. -
And Tor

Ubuntu T. should be more like ubuntu. Maybe you should remove OTA and start to use debs?
There us a big repo of ARM apps for PC. Do you plan to use it? I know that ex. libreoffice is not fitting to small multitouch screen but maybe it is enough to create good decorator and WM?The best stable apps for UT are not ported to dev SDK. Do you plan create converter or abstraction layer? It is not one shot problem but problem for each release.
Problem doesnt exist on android because of ART comoilation on the devices. -
OFF TOPIC
