Re: Does UBports support WiFi Calling?

      Hello,
I allow myself to ask if wifi calling is now implemented in Ubuntu Touch because these posts are more that 3 years old now
Is it working now, please ?
      Thank you for your answer
      Best regards,
      Thomas

@thomasM At the time VoLTE and VoWiFi (WiFi calling) are still not implemented in Ubuntu Touch, although major efforts have been made in recent months / weeks.

This is mainly due to the fact that these technologies use closed hardware source code that is very complex to unravel.

@stanwood Stanwood, may I ask, if and when they do figure out the Volte thing, because we are required to have it here in the U.S., will it be resolved likely just in an update or am I going to have to find out what hardware specific things I need to do to make it work?
I'm a bit of a newby at this and was hoping to buy one running Ubuntu Touch right out of the box, unfortunately the oneplus I just bought only does text and data, no voice and I have to decide soon whether to return it or not. I love the OS, but I need to be able to talk on the device as a daily driver.

                Hi @Tripluradon
There are some progress on VoLTE, but it's still early to make any promises at all.
We have people working on both Qualcomm and Mediatek modems, but it's hard to envision which device will be able to make calls over LTE.

The safe bet would be to return the OnePlus for now and wait for an official release.
But you can also choose the gambling route and help test it on your device.

@Tripluradon Indee, as @AppLee said, the development team is very small and has a lot to do.. VoLTE is such a crazy thing to work on.

I'm not in, so I can't tell you further. In general, there is no timetable for deployment within the teams. Things comme "when ready".

If you live in North America, I can strongly recommend this Telegram group: (search for)

                  UBports [North America Carrier Issues]

Users exchange ideas and workarounds, like third SIP providers for example. But no magic wand for now.

                  Regards.
