Hey folks,
This may not be the best place to ask this but I'm curious if anyone has thoughts.
I would really like to have a phone with very very few functions,
I want to call, and text. If possible use WhatsApp and signal but that secondary.
I'd like to be able to open and store files.
Thats it. I don't want to have access to a map, to a search engine, even to the camera but I do want to be able to interact with the system of the phone.
I've looked into and tested some flip phones but i find that they are just pretty poor quality in general and allow for no control. I can't open files or even remove access to bad maps or very bad search engines and app stores.
This has led me to here to this general ecology of linux phones and ubuntu touch.
I'm I headed down a completely wrong rabbit hole by exploring here? -

Depending where you live (2G/3G networks), call, SMS and MMS works like a charm.
If only 4/5G, that's not actually usable, but heavy work is ongoing.If possible use WhatsApp and signal but that secondary.
Almost no gafam or enterprises publish apps on Ubuntu Touch.
There is no WhatsApp app because it's closed source material.
There's a signal app, but not official so not all the features works and can have issues.I'd like to be able to open and store files.
Depends on what files type you can open quite some.
You can store whatever file you want.I do want to be able to interact with the system of the phone.
You can, but they're conditions, witch we will discuss if needed.

@simply I would suggest a Pinephone or Librem 5/Liberty phone or one of the Mobian/Droidian or Postmarketos phones

That's not quite exactly his questions.
For instance hard to install Ubuntu Touch on a librem 5, plus price is insane. -
@Keneda Just giving options. He wants no maps, no camera, etc. Some of UTs phone ports do not have working camera, but most do. Pinephone and Librem, as you know, have physical switches to disable camera, etc. He could just physically remove the camera from any phone as well, although that might have unintended effects depending on how it's wired.
