Hello forum,
Since 24.04-1.1 rc1 I noticed that my micro SD card is read only mounted. I use a Volla X23.
Is this issue known?
I'm unable to reproduce this issue. There's actually a number of reasons a storage could be mounted read-only; could you please try switching back to 24.04-1.x Stable channel and see if the issue goes away?

Hello,
I installed 24.04-1.0 again and the micro SD card is mounted read only there too.I believe it still worked on 20.04.
Many thanks & best regards

Hello, from https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/suzu/
Essential Features State: Abandoned
So your only chance is with Ubuntu 20.04 it seems, last UT version will not work just like this.

Update 18 November 2025
- Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.1 RC 2 is now available for testing. This release fixes:
- Issues with voice calls on Volla Phone 22.
- Crash in Messaging app when attempting to play an attached video or audio.
- Sending SMS on some VoLTE-enabled devices.
The new release date for Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.1 is 25 November 2025.
-
Due to a migration in Volla Phone 22's hardware abstraction layer (HAL), after receiving Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.1 RC 1 or later (including daily channel), you will be unable to switch back to Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.0 using UI. Please follow this instruction to use UBports Installer to re-install Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.0.

It is known that Sony Xperia X doesn't boot Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.x images. This has been known since before 24.04-1.0 release, but due to administrative mistake, the list of device on our release announcement was not updated. The release announcement blog has since been updated. Due to its age, we're unable to guarantee if we'll be able to restore support for Sony Xperia X within 24.04-1.x releases or not. We're sorry for your inconvenience.

the micro SD card is still mounted read only.
i'll try to find a micro sd card in the following days to check if it's just your phone or a general problem.
In the mean time, if you can ssh to your phone and have some debugging practice, you could try to use
journalctl --user -e -u ciborium
and/or
udisksctl
(a command line utility)
to check a bit on how things stand.
Since I have never tried to do any test at all with a working and a non-working sd card on UT I'll not be able to help much in understanding these logs / reports, it's just that I know they exists.Ah, well, you did check the sd card on another device to see if it has not developed a fault at the same moment ? I know it's unlikely, but such things do happen.

I upgraded my FP5 without much problem (I'd assume that it's just a software 'feature' that after the upgrade is finished the button is stuck at 'upgrading' and it needs a press on it for a dialog to appear to reboot the phone ?), at first I noticed nothing, now I have noticed a more annoying problem but I'm not sure it's new with RC2, maybe I did not notice it with RC1, but I'm almost sure that I would have noticed it when I ran 24.04 daily: when I disable Wifi and enable it again, I see the big list of Wifi access point , I then exit settings by pushing it out in the UT task selector, when I get into the settings again and disable Wifi then exit settings like before, and then enter again in settings and enable Wifi, the switch does not turn green and the phone reboots by itself. The wifi is not enabled after the reboot but I can then enable it without reboot.
Not sure of the exact steps, maybe it takes one repeat or two, but the reboot is very reproducible.

@gpatel-fr I believe you are experiencing:-
https://gitlab.com/ubports/porting/reference-device-ports/android11/fairphone-5/fairphone-fp5/-/issues/37
Which I occasionally have had on the current stable version anyway.
You can force it to happen if you play with the Network toggle buttons for a bit but in my general usage I find it's rare to trigger this bug. -

I had one just now and it mounted without problem, I could write a file on it so basically I can't reproduce.
There was a problem reading the file back on the other device, this device recognized that there was a file with a non null size, however it could not display it as a photo - although before changing the sdcard back to the other device, I could still display it fine on the phone itself. Maybe I have not done it the right way, I would need more tests. But I could not reproduce the problem of the sdcard mounted read only. -

I believe you are experiencing:-
https://gitlab.com/ubports/porting/reference-device-ports/android11/fairphone-5/fairphone-fp5/-/issues/37This is possible, since one comment from 4 days ago says it was happening with Wifi. I never use airplane mode since I don't use planes
however every time I go out with my FP5 I switch wifi off to save a bit of battery so I can assert that it is not a rare problem, I see it clearly more than half the time. But yes, the symptoms are the same. -
Hello
I did a few tests today.
- I tried another micro SD card and the read only problem did not exist.
So it must be a problem with the micro SD card.
- A check of the file system (with pc) of the problematic 1 TB micro SD card showed problems.
After repairing the file system, ut mounted the card rw again.
With my x23 I had the situation a few times that the micro SD card was sometimes not available (maybe a contact problem). This probably led to the file system problem.
Thank you very much for the help in locating the error!!
Best regards
Charly
