I left out requirement for WiFi calling (if a phone is to be 'daily driver'), in previous posts.
I use WiFi more than cellular (basement office & workshop, in rural area = terrible cell reception).
I read that VoLTE functionality shares code with WiFi calling, so the VoLTE functionality is required.
Also looked into Linphone (failed to install native, due to 64 bit not available, also could not find a version to install via Libertine).
The UT old revision device pages for Nord N10 & Volla Phone do NOT mention WiFi calling in the main chart of Supported Features, and also NOT listed as 'Unsupported' below that - just plain missing !
On the bright side, wireless external monitor works OK on the Pixel 3A XL, and is listed as functional on the Nord N10, but as NOT functional on the Volla. (at least on old releases page).
So, if trying for a portable office, Nord N10 appears to be the better choice !
Maybe time to create a spreadsheet comparing status of features across UT supported models...
Does anyone know if a summary (all devices) status chart exists ? -
I made a chart. Added status of all phones that might support VoLTE. partially added notes on Cellular Bands (some model phone do not support all US bands, apparently). I did NOT check every single band by #.
Google AI answers mentioned Volla & Fairphone optimized for European & other countries. Pixel 3a = Halium 9 & developer has no VoLTE access to test.
Summary result is Nord N10 (or N100) = ONLY phone(s) that have functional VoLTE & support all US GSM bands.
Please correct me if I am wrong. -
@oldbutndy You are correct. The N10/N100 porter is going to try to revive the OP6/T port, so that might be number 3. But, it will be a while.
-
@oldbutndy VoWiFi is still being investigated.
You could put your P3a on Droidian or Mobian/PostmarketOS and use SIP. UT devs are working on SIP integration in the dialer. It partially works now, but still needs a lot of work to be functional. In the meantime, SIP support is functional on those other OSes and would be the equivalent of VoWiFi.
-
@oldbutndy Yeah, as rocket2infinity says, no guarantees about VoWifi. But I thought some people had said that it "just worked" after VoLTE was up and running. No idea if it's device dependent or what.
Maybe @jam1388 or @vverve could test voice over wifi for you?Just remember, before making your buying decision, that VoLTE is very much in beta and being worked on with Oneplus N10. It's not presently available on the Stable channel, and things break on the Daily builds.
I'm hopeful it'll make its way to Stable, but nobody's guaranteeing anything. -

@jam1388 ?Merry & happy everything to all !!!

@rocket2nfinity after your post, I read all I could find on Droidian & Mobian status (VoLTE & other). Sounds like VoLTE might be at least partly functional, but a variety of other things suggest UT is the best supported / documented option, and at the moment, the Nord N10 & N100 are best options.
-
@oldbutndy Correct. I was just trying to give you options for your P3a. For a fully functional linux phone with US bands, you will want the OP N10 / N100

@rocket2nfinity Nord N10 (BE2028 model) came in today.
After long webpage chat effort with MVNO, got WiFi calling functional with new T-Mo SIM, on existing Oneplus OS. (I had already tested that in iPhone, so the extra effort surprised me. Also, surprised, since it was new T-Mo SIM, on a phone originally sold by T-Mo !).
During setup on my LineageOS phones, people said that process configures SIM / carrier etc (since carrier might not help after install of alt OS).Then did the ADB to get unlock code number (64 characters on my terminal window, in 2 groups of 32).
Then, on Oneplus webpage, tried lower, then upper case. The 64 characters did not fit in the box. and the page showed the words '64 characters ...' in red underneath. But did not indicate good or bad. I assumed the red meant bad. It took multiple tries, googling, no good answers. I tried a space after 32 characters, then removed it. Gave up, and tried the whole web page from scratch & it worked (uppercase chars, same as terminal window).
Now waiting 7 days. Tedious. My previous experience (6 Unlocked Google Pixels) was easier - no days of waiting. But, there did not seem to be any Factory unlocked US cell band N10 models (where I could trust from the listing that they were factory/bootloader unlocked) available at the moment on ebay. Ebay really should require full manufacturer model numbers (the BE2028, etc part), and standard listing header with words like 'Bootloader Unlocked' for a listing, to make it easier to find the models we require for UT.
Anyone encounter problems at or after this point ?
Suggestions ? -
" Gave up, and tried the whole web page from scratch & it worked (uppercase chars, same as terminal window). "
Do you mean you refreshed the page, then re-entered the numbers and letters all upper case?
-
From this point you should just have to wait a week or two and they should provide you the matching code to enter when trying to unlock.
After unlocking, you will need to apply the procedure listed in the N100 forum, to convert the N10 to the global ROM - adjusting for the N10 of course. After that, use the installer to install UT.
You really should join us in the ubports NA Carrier Issues Telegram group as it's easier to explain and help in an interactive manner, and is the current topic being discussed now.

Hmmmm , i tried that conversion many time , best of luck , or get ready to some learning curves...
My tmobile n10 did great without that global conversion , UT installed with the lito said ''unsupported'' version in ubports installer appimage , from linux,of course , almost ** at first try .
**Now knowing what went wrong , like using a ram only (noswap) ''frugal'' distro , you can get short in ram , 8gb was limit , now using zram , it's ok , a hint you probably wont need.Took a week here to receive bootloader unlocking bin from oneplus , be patient .
