      I don't understand why they even care where you bought it. Unlocking bootloader factory resets the device right?
      It's not like you're using it to access data from a stolen device..And you'll need access on the device to even allow unlocking 😅

      On my previous phone purchases (6 google Pixels, to install 5 LineageOS & 1 UT), I was aware I needed to buy 'Factory Unlocked', and not originally sold by Verizon or AT&T, because they refused to unlock bootloaders.
      My guess is that, at least partly, they realize that by installing 3rd party firmware, we extend the life of the device and put off buying new ones.
      I read what I could find regarding Oneplus, and it looked as though, as long as carrier was unlocked (which implied phone paid off), then Oneplus would unlock bootloader (for T-mobile sold models).
      I discovered that, at least in my case (BE2028), not always true.
      [Since this failure, I searched info for other possible UT candidates, and read that Xiaomi is less helpful for unlocking lately].
      I also discovered (sadly for this UT project) there are far more 'factory unlocked' Pixels available used than Nord N10's !

    • RE: Ubuntu touch as PC?

      @Yumi
      installed UT 2 days ago on 1+ Nord N10 (BE2026). [Note VoLTE worked, but NOT WiFi calling].
      UT mentions 'Desktop Convergence', so I tried to see if my phone could reproduce my Linux Mint LibreOffice 'desktop experience'.
      Easy to connect to WIRELESS external display (limited to 1080P), as long as that display runs Miracast (my LG TV's do).
      Then I connected Acasis multiport USB-C hub, with PD charging, a wired keyboard, wired mouse, Gigabit ethernet adapter and USB-A Flash drive.
      I installed LibreOffice via snap. (direct, no libertine required).
      I opened a spreadsheet that had been created on main PC.
      not as quick as main PC, but workable.
      Image on TV was a bit 'wavy', moving top to bottom, as it refreshed, or something. (maybe 2.4Ghz WiFi interference also)
      A phone model with WIRED external display capability probably fixes the 'wavy'.
      I did NOT exhaustively test this (meaning the usability for lengthy spreadsheet changes).
      It was just to see if it would work.
      If you have a specific thing to try, let me know. I might be able to give a quick test.

    • RE: Ubuntu touch as PC?

      @mango
      I did find & install snap for Thunderbird a couple days ago. Installs, but not open (actually, a 'fuzzy box with a text bar at top appears, but nothing in fuzzy box). Then tried series of questions on Google AI 'reasoning model' via browser. It had a series of troubleshooting commands to type in to terminal. I did not follow through yet due to sharing the same display between UT phone and main PC doing the AI thread. Summary was AI estimate of required spending approximately 10 hours on configuration, IF using UT on a phone that had WIRED external monitor, USB Keyboard, mouse, etc. AI thought MANY more hours required if using a wireless external display.
      I gave up on Thunderbird at that point.

      Searched for snap for Linphone. found none.

      Found snap for Signal. Installed. No account so it shows "failed to connect to server". So, it might work.

      Firefox snap install process gave error: bad plugs or slots: kerberos-tickets (unknown interface "kerberos-tickets"). No icon installed on main screen.

      Just installed Brave browser via snap. Installed with no errors, opens on wireless external display, and performs a web search, & display correctly. (5 second test. NOT comprehensive. but it opened & looked OK)

      Wow !
      Thank you for that effort !
      I like your one-click-install idea ...
      Now, to access Proton mail via Thunderbird, just need to install Proton Mail Bridge on host Linux PC, and configure phone to access that ?
      or
      compile Proton Mail Bridge for ARM ?

    • RE: Forwarding SMS messages when cell signal unavailable ?

      I found a temporary solution (passive antenna hardware under $100).
      Limited to 1 very specific location (semi-moveable), but it solves the main problem: ZERO cell signal in rural basement office/workshop.
      So, it might enable me to really start to use UT:

      I installed a directional outdoor cellular antenna ($30 ebay) on a pole outside, aimed it generally toward a cell tower (based on map search), connected 50 ft (17meter) of cable (single piece of coax), then indoor antenna ($12).
      No amplifier.
      Indoor antenna is mounted horizontally on a plastic base a few inches (75mm) above office desk (formica surface, on sheet metal frame), and set cell phone (Nord N10) on top.
      Phone now has enough 'bars' (3 or 4) to use voice calling and exchange SMS.
      Location is open workshop / office, so I should be able to hear ringing and most notifications.
      Preliminary testing, but initial results are encouraging.
      Only issue is, has to stay VERY close to antenna (and orientation probably matters. Not tested yet).
      I mention this solution because a no-amplifier system might work for others, and is fairly cost effective.

      I might still order a used amplifier, which would enable moving phone away from the antenna (to anywhere in room).

    • RE: LibreOffice in Libertine - anyone using it ?

      I deleted it after reading that Libertine is on its way out & Snap now supported, so I installed the snap version & it works OK- wireless external display - 4K TV.
      Also connected $10 (USD-Amazon) Acasis USB-C port expander to charge and plug in USB Keyboard & USB stick (with *.ods test file).

    • RE: BUDGET 5G smartphone w/ Ubuntu Touch

      @idonthatevests
      The N10 5G is 5G. The N100 is similar, but no 5G. Some people said they ordered N10 from somewhere, but got N100, so watch out for that. If in USA, search for BE2026. You might have trouble unlocking BE2028.

      on Ebay, over 10 used N10's (some BE2026) have sold for under $100 in past 2 months. Some new-in-box BE2026 have recently sold for over $150.

    • RE: [app]{public testing special}~workspace~drop in replacment for contenthub

      @developerbayman My interest is because it appears you are working on native apps, and specifically maybe solving 'printing problem'..
      I run Linux Mint on most PC's, & windows only rarely & where I have no choice (Software for Curtis brand motor controller parameter setting app only available on Windows - maybe use it once a year to set up / change a controller, or other similar rare things).
      I would prefer a phone that runs Linux, and runs native apps - specifically office type apps on UT phone & external display. [ was ABLE to install a native office suite on my UT phone, & (using wireless external display) it worked enough to create a file.]
      I frequently print things from Linux Mint (I am 'oldschool', and worked a few years at Xerox, on laser printers, starting about 42 years ago, so I 'expect' to be able to print from any system that is 'office').
      I was NOT able to print from Office suite on UT.
      So, this issue feels like failure.
      You have posted that you are working on Office app & printing app - this 'workspace'.
      Have you tried to print from UT using your app ?

    • RE: [app]{public testing special}~workspace~drop in replacment for contenthub

      @developerbayman I was asking status.
      Maybe list a few things that work, or are coded, but don't work.
      You don't have to post it.
      If it is 90% not working, then what is the point ?
      But maybe, at 50%, there are usable portions ?
      I understand the ADHD thing - lots of partial projects myself.
      The critical ones get done.
      So, maybe you focus on whatever you feel is highest benefit to you ?
      Or take a poll, and work on what most people say they would benefit most from ?

      @developerbayman When you say you only ran it on your desktop - you mean installed and did some testing ? SO, is there a UT version in progress ? If so, what is status of that ? IF you had just the printing functions implemented, maybe I could test that with Office package (your or others) using external display. Do I understand your effort correctly ?

      @developerbayman So.... the images you posted: from the PC version, or UT version - on a phone - OR, UT version as seen on external display (desktop convergence) ?

      If you have a native UT version that might scale correctly to an external display, I would help you test it.

    • RE: Battery saving/Low Power mode within OS discussions?

      @sixwheeledbeast I think anything to save battery is good, especially for phones without inductive charging. Nord N10 lacks inductive, and constant recharging wears the port & battery. Works against keeping device a long time.

    • RE: One Plus Nord N10 5G Information

      @Ehartwork
      Due to lack of time, I asked Google. So, hopefully someone here will correct any errors:
      Answer was: VoLTE & WiFi calling share some underlying code.
      But VoLTE code more on modem & WiFi calling in OS.
      Also, Halium 11, or newer . Better support with that (11) for WiFi Calling. (Nord N10 only on halium10).
      I suggested (different thread) that WiFi Calling get added to all device pages, to make the distinction that VoLTE works on some devices, but WiFi calling does NOT, at present, on most UT devices. This would help prospective UT users decide on device.

      Google also said that some developers said FP5 WiFi calling works sometimes, and this was due to different -newer- modem & firmware than most other phones.
      I bought Nord N10 months ago, under same bad assumption: VoLTE (YES) & WiFi calling (NO) work. Wasted huge money & time. Had to buy active cell signal booster. (more $ than I paid for the phone).

      BTW: No native RCS. (Just in case you expected that feature). Not listed, as far as I could tell, on devices pages.

      @Futura Thank you for that (Murena comment).
      I recently researched this via Google & reply said 'Fairphone North American support via Murena'.
      Sadly, you discovered NOT the case !
      It is too bad that details like this don't yet have a place on the devices pages.
      It is one thing if you have an old phone, and want to try UT. Maybe you already got years of use.
      But to spend new money, and then have this problem, & no forewarning about lack of support in various countries, is just depressing !
      Thank you for your report on this.
