Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.0 call for testing
-
Thank you so much! I can confirm that:
-
24.04-2.0 Beta2 works fine on my testing device: OnePlus Nord N10 5G
-
The keyboard problem on XWayland apps is gone, and furthermore there is no more an additional "X" icon in the left system tray, and the application icon appears instead, which is really great! ( Although the status indicator, i.e the small dot at the right or left of the icon, is not always working well, but this is some detail )
-
The bookmark apps are working well for me, and benefiting from latest webengine, which is absolutely great! I've tested also BlaBlacar. @djac Do you still have the problem?
I think 24.04-2.0 will really be great, and I'm very happy about it! Thank you very much!

I've noticed a bug that is a bit problematic:
I cannot allow a QML5 app to have access to the microphone.
For example if I install the Recorder app, without previous install, I cannot record anything, because I cannot allow it to access to the microphone, no authorization dialog shows up.
I guess the same may apply to position permission.
-
@pparent AFAIR we had the same issue in the transition from 20.04 to 24.04. I think it had something to do with policykit or so?

I am on yesterday's build of 2.x, FP5. My phone has frozen and needed a restart several times since then. The thing in common between the freezes has been the changing of tabs in Morph. It doesn't happen every time I switch tabs, though. It has happened while several different sites have been loaded, not just one. The screen becomes unresponsive and I can not switch to a different app, open the app drawer or any settings through the top bar.

After a reboot the problem seems gone. I don't really understand because I had tried with several different apps and got the same problem.

This problem should be fixed in the upcoming RC.

I'm unable to re-produce this problem.

One thing I have noticed in the updated web browser: https://kagi.com is rendering their desktop UI. This seems to happen even if I force a custom user agent via Webber.
Kagi does render properly on other mobile browsers. But this really only seems to affect Kagi, so whatever they are doing must be at odds with whatever Morph is doing. It did render the mobile UI in the older qt6 beta browser. Maybe there is some regression around communicating user agent or "I'm a mobile browser" feature points to the server?

Update 6 July 2026: a bit late, but Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.0 RC is now available for testing.
Notable changes
- Morph Browser no longer crash when visiting certain sites with unusual text encoding.
- Morph Browser should no longer freezes the phone when using it for a long time or switching tabs frequently.
- The issue where Morph Browser and/or webapps shows black screen should occur less frequently. We'll work on an issue to eliminate it completely in the future.
- Context menu in simple webapps (such as those created with Webber app) is no longer broken.
- On-screen keyboard no longer overflows to the screen edges.
- Video playback and video recording on some devices should no longer be broken.
- Group MMS should be more robust, especially when receiving a message from a new group.
Notable known issues
- If networking-related indicator items get pushed over the notch area, they currently can't be split up. This is the limitation of the current notch avoidance implementation. We'll work on this in the future.
- Notch avoidance does not work yet on landscape mode.
- Morph Browser is known to be broken on some older devices, such as (original) Volla Phone and Sony Xperia X.
- While Widevine could now be installed in Morph Browser, some sites (e.g. Netflix) might impose further restrictions on what browser it supports.
- Hardware video decoding in the updated Morph Browser is not working. Video playback still works, but will be done in software, increasing power usage (qt6-webengine#1).
- Morph Browser's new tab page is not fully functional. In particular, it doesn't show bookmarked sites correctly (morph-browser#624)
- We're still working on issue with mouse position on built-in screen affecting the trackpad on Volla Tablet's keyboard cover. As such, Volla Tablet will not receive 24.04-2.0 at this time.
Please note that only critical and security fixes will be able to enter Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.0 as this point. Normal bug fixes and new features will need to wait for our next release.
