Cannot install ubuntu touch on BQ M10 ubuntu edition
-
@ziggutas first run his in the terminal to check your adb
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:phablet-team/tools && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastbootThen connect your tablet and type adb devices you should see your m10 and or see a dialog box to grant permission
You may have done that already, anyway
sudo fastboot oem unlock
should do the trick -
@lakotaubp Ran the commands; already had the latest versions. Tried adb: nothing.
Sudo fastboot oem unlock got nowhere. Just 'waiting for any device'.Plugged my phone in (bq e4.5, ub touch 15) typed adb devices and it was listed straight away with a pop up window on phone screen also. So pc side of things appears ok.
Tried once again running ubports-installer and choosing device manually but failed at the prompt to press vol and power buttons to go to bootloader. Tablet always ends up rebooting normally to the 'bq powered by ubuntu' screen.
This makes me think something may have changed in the tablet the very first time I pressed vol,power and installer appeared to be working bu then got stuck at recovery mode and would go no further...?
-
@ziggutas after switching off the power and vol down buttons held together don't give you fastboot ?
if you start the installer without the tablet connected wait till its running then connect the M10 its not detected? even if you choose the device yourself and install options? does it ask you to put it into fastboot/bootloader manually (power and vol down buttons together). The tablet wont go into it just trying to get things straight in my head -
@lakotaubp Sorry for the confusion, I'll try to describe the situation more clearly.
I've just looked back to my first post at the top of this thread. It describes the problem I'm having quite accurately.Now the situation is- if I start installer, then connect tablet, it is not detected.
If I choose device myself and install options it takes me forwards to point where it asks me to put it into bootloader manually by pressing buttons...but the tablet fails at this point.Holding power/vol up for a minute results in black screen for awhile , quick vibrate, 'bq powered by ubuntu' regular start up screen. And this cycle just continues if for as long as you hold the buttons continuously.
The black bootloader screen on the tablet only came up that one time before I asked for help. Never since.
Thank you so much for all the time you are giving this; I'm starting to feel guilty!
-
@ziggutas try power and vol down button
Please don't feel guilty let's try and fix this if slightly slowly. -
@lakotaubp Power & vol down: black screen followed by normal booting screen. Repeats for as long as you hold the buttons.
-
@ziggutas and if you release buttons as soon as black screen appears? Does it stay black or boot as normal
-
@lakotaubp Stays black
-
@ziggutas and if you connect it to the installer when asked like that does anything happen
-
@lakotaubp I'll just try...
-
@ziggutas if nothing happens with the installer quickly try adb devices in the terminal again just to see
-
@lakotaubp When asked by installer I pressed pwr/vol down and released when screen went black. No response. No response from adb devices in terminal either, but I wasn't that quick. Tablet charging screen came up, now its off.
-
@ziggutas nearly done for tonight open the terminal on the tablet and try sudo oem unlock or have we done that brain switching off now
-
@ziggutas Right try this and let me know
Hold power and vol up wait till it buzzes
Let go if power button
As soon as powered by screen appears repress and hold power button
Don't let go of vol up at any stage
That just got me the menu you need 3 times in a row -
@lakotaubp Can't see a terminal on tablet. Or a file manager.
Bit puzzled by that. Can't remember whether they were there or not before resetting the tablet.
Tried your technique with the power and vol up buttons and tablet just kept returning to the powered by screen. -
@ziggutas terminal and file manager are in the Openstore which should be on the tablet. So I switched of tablet and held down vol up button then power button as soon as it vibrates take your finger of the power button only. As soon as the powdered by screen appears press the power button screen should go black then bootloader menu should appear.
Try quickly pressing power button if that doesn't work hold it in until bootloader appears don't let go of vol up button -
@lakotaubp No openstore on tablet. Am I not getting something here? This is a brand new M10 from BQ : ubuntu edition.Obviously I can go to openstore via browser, download terminal for vivid, which I have done, but lack terminal to install!

@ziggutas Your tablet is still on the original canonical Ubuntu touch, yes. With developer mode on. And the above instructions will not open the bootloader to access fast boot. Is that correct, still.
If nothing works can you do a full factory reset(again) so you have a clean setup and confirm all is as you got it and it sets up OK. Feel like I'm missing something very obvious -
@lakotaubp Tablet on original canonical ubuntu as supplied by BQ,yes, with developer mode on, yes.
I reset device again earlier and it looks the same; although I couldn't swear to it.
I've taken a picture of the apps scope , but don't know how to post it. -
@lakotaubp And yes, above instructions will not open bootloader etc.
