@lakotaubp Success! My M10 Ubuntu Edition is now on UBPorts ubuntu 15.04 (r3) and I'm very happy about that! Great big thanks to everybody who has helped to make this happen.

There were two key pieces of information posted yesterday that made things work today:

@requist said in Cannot install ubuntu touch on BQ M10 ubuntu edition:

Not sure if it helps but I just installed ubuntu touch on this device from Android. Because I ran into some issues on 18.04 with apparmor I installed it from a live usb of 16.04.
First I used https://docs.ubports.com/en/latest/userguide/install.html#install-on-legacy-android-devices to get into the old ubuntu touch.

@ziggutas think this is the link you had
        https://web.archive.org/web/20180118130643/http://www.mibqyyo.com/en-articles/2015/09/16/ubuntu-android-installation-process-for-bq-aquaris-e4-5-and-e5
@advocatux found it for someone in the telegram supergroup the other day.

The first link to the ubports docs prompted me to down load the flash tool and ubuntu touch ROM (frieza) from that page, and it also encouraged me to try doing everything from my ubuntu 16.04 laptop and not bother with the pc (ubuntu 18.04)
The second link to the archived mibqyyo support article was vital in guiding me through the steps to run the flash tool in terminal, set it up correctly and carry out the procedure.

It took about five or six goes on the flash tool before it took off. The flash tool could not detect the usb port a few times. Then there was a BROM ERROR : S_COM_PORT_OPEN_FAIL (1013). Research suggested this could be cured by swapping usb port or cable.

Because I was trying different things fairly randomly one can't say exactly what made the difference but the last attempt was made using the same cable in a different port . Before connecting the tablet was switched off, security passcode disabled, developer mode switched off. And it worked. Tablet now had an old ubuntu touch.

Next came the ubports installer. Opened installer on same laptop. Before connecting tablet I set the passcode, turned developer mode on, restarted the device and connected to the installer. Deep joy!! It was recognised instantly, pop-up window on tablet asked to allow usb debugging and the installer did it's lovely stuff.

So, excuse the long waffle, but thanks again Lakotaubp, Marathon2422, requist and all who helped with this.

@ziggutas Big YeeAAaaa well done for hanging in there. Enjoy your Ubports Ubuntu Touch. Now after a rest from all that fun you only need to move onto 16.04 😀🙃

As encouragement, I am running 16.04 on my BQ Tablet. I have encountered no real issues (except maybe the lack of a native e-mail client and document viewer).

I had heard this was the case. But it has not yet been uploaded to the OpenStore, correct?

EDIT: Thanks for including the link to the issue, @advocatux

@arubislander not yet, I think. That issue has been closed only some hours ago.

Good news, but an email client is a 'must have' for me. I tried 16.04 on my BQ E4.5 but moved swiftly back to 15.04 when I couldn't get Dekko 2 to keep an eye on three email accounts.

I too will be exercising some patience!! 😉

@ziggutas you can follow the ongoing effort to compile Dekko2 for xenial here https://forums.ubports.com/topic/1477/dekko2-developer-community-thread/25 and here https://gitlab.com/dekkoproject/dekko/issues/

                        P.S. I'm using webmail until Dekko2 is ready 😉
