[SOLVED] No phone network 16.04
-
After calling with the phone app, the network is gone, so I can't make any phone calls, and other people can't reach my phone by calling me. It takes a 10 tot 20 seconds to get the connection back (name of the provider showing again in the phone app). The icon for the phone network shows like there is no problem.
Also, when I call someone, and break the connection, the phone app stops, so I need to start it up again. When someone calls me and we end the connection, this problem doesn't seem to show up
Phone: BQ E4.5
OS: 16.04 version 127 (this is in dev mode, but the problem is also in rc mode)Problem is not in 15.04

@thebird I've forwarded your question to some people who maybe can give an answer/solution
-
@thebird Thought I would check this myself and I get the same on my OPO, but the no network only lasts a couple of seconds. I get none of the other issues. It could be this is happening quite often but most people don't notice the brief no network.
So can you please check. I'm on 16.04 dev (2018-08-06/2(416)). As an aside I love when you rotate the phone in system settings the About section shows up as well. -

My fault very badly phrased that last bit. Please can anyone else reading this check and see if they get the same very short no network issue after making a call.

Buying an other phone.
So, this is what I did, I bought myself a Oneplus One phone, to solve the problem, since nobody has the problem described by me.
Same problem!
Take your Ubuntu phone, and call someone. Other phone is ringing. Don't answer! but end the call with the Ubuntu phone (the phone you are calling from).
-> phone app crashes (stops executing), this happened once.
or
-> no network, and the network comes back for about a minute. It does not matter if you stop the phone app and start it back up. The network does not come back. Repeating this phone call makes it worse. Network won't come back again.
Putting the phone into Flight modus, does the trick. After the network is back, I repeated this. So, I called the other phone, hang up with the ubuntu phone, no network, flight modus, but I can't even get the network back anymore. The only solution is to reboot the phone.
Switching the simcards.
First there is another problem. The ubuntu phone is refused to the network. This takes a minute and than it connects.
Now it comes back on by itself. So that's better. But then I repeated calling and ending the call and noticed the time it takes to come back on the network increases. After a couple of times it didn't come back and I had to reboot the phone.
One of the sim card is on KPN network (best there is in the Netherlands). This is the one that got refushed first.
So, I hope someone could try what I did, repeatedly calling and ending the call (so don't pick up) and what happens there. I think for a phone, we have a huge bug.
Another remarkable fact, when the phone app has no network, the browser has no problems with the network. Browsing the internet is not a problem (I checked, but I had no wifi selected here). So it looks like the problem is in the phone app.

Not sure if it works, but you might try dialing the code
*#*#4636#*#*
and check or report your configured data mode preference, and your network's voice capabilities. The preferred network provider, and auto-selection setting is also a thing, and the phone may also take some time before properly detecting your mobile network environment.)
-
@thebird same here on Pro 5. It only last maybe a 10 seconds, but also I had failed calls due to unavailable network. So it's a bug. You should fill a bug report.

It's dailing, and then the text showing the call ended. This gives again no network. So this didn't work

It was set on auto-selecting. By selecting the right network there was no difference.

Sorry, I was hoping the "gsm code"
*#*#4636#*#*
may open a network information app , as on other phones. As it seems to be widely reproducable, the best seems to be to write an issue report then. -

@TheBird The same here, Pro 5, 16.04, RC channel. It displays "no network" for up to 10 seconds (sometimes only a few - that is why I didn't notice until today) and then I have network again.

So you mean what? Get used to a phone with a phone -app which is not relyable? Even not in the stable version ? Please be more specific with your answer. I hope I am misunderstanding.

@thebird @thebird No that is not what I am saying. These two items are related I think, and the second thread also explains the same issue. At the end if you read that far Flohack explains what is happening and why it could take sometime to fix and that great care is needed not to break the code.
If you want more info you could ask a question in tomorrows Q&A just use the link belowhttps://forums.ubports.com/topic/1617/q-a-35-this-saturday-01-09-18-at-19-00-utc/7

I don't think (hope) so because my item is only in 16.04, the other item is in both.

@thebird Sometimes I had to switch on the Flight mode to get network back, so this is a bug I guess. It's happening right after I finish a call. Just no network and unable to receive or make a call at all. Now it's happening more often and takes longer to get back the network. Also on dual sim cards phones, the network manager can't make its mind which network to use, even when setting set to certain network as preferred. Never happened on 15.04. And if did, it was only for like a 1-2 seconds. Anyone filled the bug report on this??? Or, should I do it?
-
@stefano Please go ahead had a quick look #829 is closest but not the same. Double check I haven't missed it already being reported
-
@thebird also me with my OPO have the same issue
