Thread for getting people together who would like to help with translations. You need basic Linux skills, and a PO-Editor
BR
-
I can do Estonian, have a PO-editor
-
Count me in! I can do both Italian and Polish.
-
I can do Russian
-
And here is the po directory: https://github.com/yunit-io/telegram-app/tree/master/telegram/po - please checkout the project, enter the po folder, start poedit and open your language. Dont forget to set poedit to your name & email
We are looking mainly for missing translations, but you are welcome to update other things also.
Thanks for the help!PS Do NOT translate strings like these: You changed the group title to %1 - we will remove them soon!
-
I've checked Catalan translation and it's pretty finished (Thanks Walter)
-
Guys, you can start right away to contribute on the telegram app - So far I got only ES and PT...
-
Hi, I have finished polish translation. I can also do Dutch during the weekend (if I manage to convince my daughter to help me with).
How am I supposed to commit it? Shall I make pull request or just push to repository? -
@Burak Pull-request preferred, since otherwise too many people need write access to repo xD
Thanks a lot!

@Flohack Hello, beginning in early 2015 I do frequently translations and reviews from English to German in Launchpad for Ubuntu. You can find me there as my alter-ego "schuko24" (https://launchpad.net/~gerd-saenger). If something is missing in UBports or left to be polished, I would be glad to help out. Where should I start or where do I have to search first?
-
@Gerd Well the thing is, currently translations are very inefficient, as we need you to fork every repo, change things, make a pull request via Github. Or people send us the po files manually, but this is again not a good way for many languages in many apps. We need to build a better translation system, but this is one more thing on the list where we are short on time.
What you could do is go through system applications and see if you find missing ones. Typically for example in SD card manager, or even in gallery or music app there could be missing ones. Then when you find smth, tell me the App and IΒ΄ll guide you through the first translation.

@Flohack I can and will do Romanian this week for the telegram app if it`s ok?
-
I translate to Italian, very short post just to say this.
-
Hi Guys,
some update, we will install a translation platform (Weblate probably) to make it much easier for you. You dont need to fork anything on Github, just do the real work on the translation.
Depending on progress I think I can get it up&running until end of week. I keep you updated...

It is more or less live!
Go to https://translate.ubports.com/ and help us translating. More and more projects will appear by time, so come back oftenBR
-
@Flohack, congrats.
Trying to login with an Ubuntu account but a pop-up appears saying the data will be sent using an insecure channel or something like that.
Is the third party login fully functional?
Edit: Ok I've seen in the Telegram group that the problem is with Cloudflare SSL interception.
-
@Flohack It seems very nice.
If a language does not appear in the list, does it mean you're not looking for translations to that language?
-
Hello
First of all thank you for your great job.
I participated in the translation of the ubuntu phone in Breton.
My mexus 4 runs perfectly. I wanted to know if I switched it to ubports is what the translation will always be available?
Is it possible to retrieve the work done already or must it all redo?
Thank you for your answers,
Regards, -
@hans1977se No, it shows only the languages that are already created for all the projects, if you want to add a new one, there is a button inside each project page to do so
-
@VR29 The translations are stored in the source code of the Apps and so they are not so much depending if you use Canonical image or UBports. Was that the question?
You can check on our translations site if your translations are still there => not all Apps are imported right now, we are still in beta testing
