My old Nexus 5 is battered and not altogether reliable. New old stock is still available in the UK so I bought one. New phone is on Android 6.0.1 with no OEM unlock menu. Updating does not fix this.

Installed 15 second ADB on Windows as Administrator but it does not work. It looks as if there are no drivers installed. I am not a Windows user so have no idea as to how to proceed with this.

I have fastboot on Linux. fastboot device -l shows the phone connected. fastboot flashing unlock gives FAILED (remote: unknown command).

      What should I try next?

      Many Thanks

      Chris C

@cj_c You will need dev mode as well. Tap on build number 8-9 times to unlock developer mode. If that doesn't give the option in the developer menu fastboot OEM unlock should do it.

I have done that and allowed USB debugging but I Have no OEM unlock menu item, as has been reported for a number of devices with Android 6.

Have you tried fastboot oem unlock instead?

And try putting your device in fastboot mode first (power and volume down buttons together) but guess you have done that. When it does it select yes and when finished run

              fastboot reboot

@dobey Many Thanks! Fastboot version 1:7.0.0+r33-2 for linux does not list the command oem unlock but it works... LOCK STATE is now red and unlocked.

                Kind Regards

@cj_c And UBports now installed. Next task is to sync data with the old phone.

                  Again thanks to all!
