I hope this isn't out of place, but I'm curious if there is some sort of roadmap for UT development. Is there a strategic plan, so to say, that after 'x' we will work on 'y'?

What comes after Unity8+Mir for example?

I'd just like to know what the Foundation's vision is for where this ends up and how we might get there.

What's the next device (besides the Pinephone and Librem 5) that's looking like a good candidate to be considered a "supported" device? My Nexus 5 is working well, but the components (battery in particular) aren't getting any newer, wondering if there isn't a somewhat newer device that would be a smart investment.

Having seen the post about the Ofono Hackathon I was reminded of the Halium project.

For a long time now Halium has been the suggested route for new ports and, architecturally, it seems like an excellent initiative. In spite of this the UBports supported phones have continued with the legacy stack.

              • What is the state of Halium based UBports? Are there working phones?
              • What is the state of other Halium based projects? And is the project moving forwards?
              • Are we ever going to see a move to Halium for future OTAs?

Now the ubports installer unlock. That is a very good thing. So, what is his future ? What mechanisms could be (will be) added ?

One function often desired by the general public for a smart phone is video chat. It seems that there currently is no application on UT that can actually do this (the closest I have seen was the AppRTC demo, but even this was not able to truly correctly work, and it apparently relied on deprecated packages in order to do what little it could). Is this lack of video chat capability due simply to the lack of app development towards this, or is there something at the OS level that needs to be addressed in order allow app developers to create a workable solution for UT?

                    Best regards,
                    Steve Berson

@TotalSonic Appear in from Openstore and Hublin as well, are web based solutions for video call/conference

@Stefano - currently in UT appear.in (recently rebranded) to the best of my knowledge works only for audio - not video. I have not tested Hublin but agaIn I do not believe video is currently working for it

                        Best regards,
                        Steve Berson

@TotalSonic We need QtWebEngine to be updated to use QtMultimedia, so it can access the camera, I think. It is not an easy task.

Video chat can be implemented otherwise, in a native app, but anything relying on a WebView will have problems until QtWebEngine can be fixed and updated in UT.

                              Hi Everone!
RCS is aiming at replacing SMS in a near futur.
Any plan to support it ?
                              Cheers

                                    Hi @wilfridd,

RCS was discussed in episode 33 of the Q&A, blog post here. Nothing significant has changed.
