All german public authorities and private companies could be forced stopp using Twitter, Fb & Co.

I have never heard 'mastodon' before - an open source plattform - with a list of mostly unknown supporting companies:
https://joinmastodon.org/sponsors
Has somebody tried it already?
-
Sure
That's me on Mastodon: https://social.tchncs.de/@Ingo_FP_Angel
And here is the UBports account: https://framapiaf.org/@ubports -
At the end the reason came out on top. It was time!
-
I can remember that a lot of IT people were against this development regarding EuGH - even on ut a letter was published. Now we have the first time such a development - which at the end is relevant for all countries inside the EU - if Facebook and Co will not change (something). Great!
German newspapers are full of it - but I cannot find any english article about it.
-
Just don't be stupid...
All services like "Twitter, Facebook, Google" which are companies and for free of use, will make money with your data.
They are all billion dollar companys, just by selling using your data and using your data to make money.
None of the workers there working without receiving a monthly salary just for the good of mankind.
So how can it be, that German public authorities, who are obliged to keep the data confidential, using that services, which are scanning all data and using it for commercial business?Actually that's strict against the law.

@WLBI Who is not using these plattforms? Is there any country?
When public authorities - as it is daily practice all over the world - use these plattform -> it is like a seal of quality. Stopp using them is the first step that the majority of people will get these information (and not only as a rumor)

The German "gi" (Gesellschaft für Informatik, in English: Society of Informatics) in May 2019 closed its FB presentation. See the official statement here (in German) https://gi.de/meldung/gi-zentrale-verlaesst-facebook
And as you ask; I do not use FG and Twitter for the known reasons: spying and selling the data collected. And I do not use Alexa or Siri for the same reasons. And I do not have any "smart home devices" with micro turned on all time and spying for all audio in my house.

@guru I think ALL people here who are using & developing UT are doing it more or less similar to that what you write. But I am afraid there are not a lot groups like us who are aware of what that really means.
As I come out of the climate movement (energy - not IT) - and UT is from my perspective a part of it - I know very well and since a long time what problems results when companies have the possibility of influencing masses of people. And this effects not only wired right orientated ones!
If I think about how masses of people could be teached which plattforms they should use to avoid all these negative developements - so this initiative above is one of the best things I ever read.

People don't care about all these negative developments. What people care about is a smooth running and easy to use system, with all possibilities.
That's why UBports is not that famous, because of missing apps for their daily routine. Most people don't like to make extra effort if everything is that easy with Android.
Never mind how stable and safe UBports is, it will never be for the people, because they can't use the software they already know, to have an easy life.I changed using 100% only Ubuntu Touch, when it first came out with the BQ E4.5. But after about 2 years, I changed back to Android, because it makes life so much easier.
But unfortunately, I have to pay for the easy life with my datas. -
@WLBI Maybe you are not right. 9 of 10 android apps send everything what u do on the phone to everybody who is paying for - without informing the user. There are only two reasons why andoid phones are until now not COMPLETLY FORBIDDEN in Europe:
- Nodoby knowed / cared
- Nobody wants general conflicts with the United States
Since Trump is bombing international trade this could fundamentaly change in a very short time. That public authorities do the first step is here a strong sign and will effect at the end all users. Look e.g. to Sailfish - they concentrate on public authorities as examples - that will (slowly) effects all others. The EU does now the first steps.
I could now tell a similar story with IOS and climate change.
And I also bought beginning 2015 this BQ E5 - and after 2 years there where a hole - but now everything is very fine. Tell me what is not working ultrafine (if u talk about WA u should read my lines before again ?)

Now an article in english: https://www.tellerreport.com/tech/2020-01-02---social-media--data-protection-says-goodbye-to-twitter-.rkXF39YokL.html
"The hope of the German supervisory authorities, ..., is that Facebook and Twitter will give in and make their service more privacy-friendly as soon as it becomes clear that they are not being used by authorities and companies tolerate."
